HT-77 Cold Assault Armor was a specialized type of insulated[1] clone trooper armor that was designed for operations in cold environments such as polar regions or planets that were distant from their local sun, such as Orto Plutonia,[3] and although all clone troopers of the Galactic Republic were trained to wear the armor, it was primarily utilized by clone cold assault troopers that were specialized in tactics and operations for such environments during the three-year galactic Clone Wars between the Republic and the Confederacy of Independent Systems.[2]
The Cold Assault Armor featured additional thermal seals and insulated flaps, and greatly enhanced the basic temperature-regulating functions of the standard clone bodysuit. Furthermore, the sensory apparatuses that were installed in the helmet was designed to deal with issues that arose from cold-weather conditions. The visor lenses were treated to resist the reflective glare from snow and to avoid frosting over when exposed to moisture, and the audio feedback and comlink systems dampened the sound of high winds and other interference. The armor also cost 4,000 credits.[2]
Behind the scenes[]
HT-77 Cold Assault Armor first appeared, albeit unidentified, in "Trespass,"[3] the fifteenth episode of the animated television series Star Wars: The Clone Wars' first season, which originally aired on January 30, 2009.[4] The armor was later identified for the first time in Rise of the Separatists, a 2019 supplement to Fantasy Flight Games' series of Star Wars Roleplaying products.[2]
