Hal was an officer in the starfleet of the Galactic Empire who fought in the Galactic Civil War. By the time of the First Order, Hal's prowess had passed into history, and the commemorative armbands worn by squad leaders of the First Order's military bore the officer's name in Aurebesh.[1] The rank insignia was worn by a First Order officer aboard the Finalizer,[2] and officers Nastia Unamo, Thanisson,[1] Lank Paze, and Rumitar Shay.[3]
Behind the scenes[]
The name Hal first appears on an armband worn by an unidentified bridge officer aboard the Finalizer in the 2015 film Star Wars: Episode VII The Force Awakens, although the last character is obscured.[2] The cuff title was further expanded upon in the accompanying reference book Star Wars: The Force Awakens: The Visual Dictionary.[1] The name seems to be a reference to Hal, the son of costume designer Glyn Dillon,[4] who worked on the film Star Wars: Episode VII The Force Awakens.[2]
