Harnaidan was the capital of and one of the largest cities on Muunilinst, and served as the headquarters of the InterGalactic Banking Clan. Its towers anchored a skyhook to the orbital city of High Port. Harnaidan was invaded by Republic forces during the Clone Wars in 21.66 BBY.
Description[]

Harnaidan was a massive metropolis.
Located on the Outer Rim planet Muunilinst and one of the greatest[4] and largest[5] of the Muun cities, Harnaidan was the planetary capital[6] and headquarters of the InterGalactic Banking Clan. The city was built up around a collection of spires that reached up to over four kilometers in height, and the spires themselves,[4] with foundations sunk deep in bedrock,[5] served as an anchor for a skyhook that connected Harnaidan to High Port Space Center in orbit above the planet. These massive structures were also the exclusive domain of the Banking Clan.[4]
Beneath the surface of Harnaidan laid a series of underground lakes heated by deep magma vents. The city's commoners descended into the rich waters to harvest mollusks and algae. Surrounding Harnaidan were volcanic spires. The metropolis itself was composed of gleaming marble edifices[4] constructed in the Neo-Classical style[3] and was home to over fifty million Muuns.[4] The layout of the city was orderly, in contrast to urban areas on Denon and Coruscant.[3]
History[]
Separatist stronghold[]
- "Our centuries-old lineage within the Core has leant credence to the newly-minted currency, which represents the assets of the Separatist worlds. In many worlds of the Mid Rim, it is trading at more than 50 percent of the value of a standard Republic credit, and in the Outer Rim, it is the exclusive currency of hundreds of worlds."
- ―Bank Communications Officer Lo Vapeet
During the Clone Wars between the Galactic Republic and the Confederacy of Independent Systems, a CIS Shadowfeed report from Harnaidan indicated that the ability of the InterGalactic Banking Clan to operate within Republic financial circles, due to their mandated non-exclusivity, had bolstered the value of the CIS credit. According to a monthly statement from Bank Communications Officer Lo Vapeet, which was included in the report, the CIS credit was trading at over half the value of the Republic credit in many Mid Rim markets and was the exclusive currency of hundreds of Outer Rim worlds.[7]
Republic devastation[]

During the Battle of Muunilinst[2] in 22 BBY,[1] the Grand Army of the Republic, under the command of Jedi General Obi-Wan Kenobi, assaulted Harnaidan. Just prior to engaging the Separatist Droid Army outside the city, Kenobi dispatched The Muunilinst 10 to infiltrate the city in their gunship. Though their gunship was shot down,[2] the elite group managed to fight their way through the streets to the massive defense cannon protecting Harnaidan and destroy it.[8]
With the cannon out of commission,[8] the Republic bombarded Harnaidan extensively using Self-Propelled Heavy Artillery, with entire city-blocks reduced to rubble. To repel the enemy's advancement,[9] IG lancer combat droids led by Gen'Dai[10] mercenary Durge engaged the Republic, destroying many All Terrain Tactical Enforcer walkers and heavy artillery.[9] Clone lancer troopers led by Kenobi were deployed to stop Durge's forces, with Kenobi seemingly defeated Durge in a duel.[11] The Jedi then rendevouzed with the Muunilinst 10 and captured the Separatist command center, though not before a regenerated Durge attacked the clones; however, the mercenary was once again defeated when Kenobi used the Force from inside Durge's body, causing him to explode.[12]
The forces in the city were soon surprised to see Anakin Skywalker in his starfighter chasing Asajj Ventress in hers. In his attempts to shoot down Ventress, Skywalker dealt damage to a number of the city's buildings.[13] Republic Acclamator-class assault ships soon landed in the city and were filled Muun and Neimoidian prisoners from the devastated city.[14]
Inhabitants[]
Harnaidan had a population of fifty million Muuns.[3]
Behind the scenes[]
- "The action takes place in a dollar bill."
- ―Paul Rudish
Harnaidan first appeared in "Chapter 2" of the animated microseries Star Wars: Clone Wars,[2] which aired on November 10, 2003[16] on Cartoon Network.[17] Developed by Art Director Paul Rudish, the overall look of the city as a banking center, including the architecture and green color pallete, was inspired by the artwork of the United States dollar bill.[15]
