"Some of our boys were looting a rancher's house when he walked in. He and his wife are holding our boys captive."
―A pirate leader, to a spacer[1]

Helen Goldenfield was a Human female rancher who lived on Tatooine during the Galactic Civil War.

Biography[]

"Wait a second. I guess you don't look like a pirate or thug. I'm sorry. I'm so riled up I can hardly think straight. Look, I could use your help with this. My husband has left to contact the authorities. I need to go calm down or I may do something drastic. Please, go down the stairs and keep an eye on those thugs for me. It would really help me out."
―Helen Goldenfield, to a spacer[1]

By the time of the Battle of Yavin, Helen Goldenfield lived in a ranch near the city of Mos Eisley with her husband Roric Goldenfield.[1]

In 1 ABY,[2] Helen and her husband had raised the ire of a local band of pirates who had established a hideout near their home. Roric had managed to capture and imprison some of the pirates in the basement of their home and had left to find an Imperial garrison to have them arrested. He left Helen to watch the pirates. While he was away, a spacer, who was on a quest for the Mark of Honor, arrived at their house. Being a gracious host, Helen let the spacer in. She asked if they would watch the prisoners for her while she took a break. The spacer agreed. During this time, the pirates pleaded with the spacer to let them out, but they refused and informed Helen of their intent to escape. At this time, Roric had finally returned with two Imperial dark troopers. The troopers arrested the pirates and led them out of the house. Helen and her husband thanked the spacer for their assistance, and the spacer left.[1]

Behind the scenes[]

Every possible depiction of Helen Goldenfield

Helen Goldenfield was an non-playable character in the 2003 video game Star Wars Galaxies, a massively multiplayer online roleplaying game developed by Sony Online Entertainment and published by LucasArts,[3] prior to its closure on December 15, 2011.[4] Helen Goldenfield was added to the game as part of the "Hero of Tatooine" questline,[3] released with "Publish 9" on June 29, 2004.[5]

Because Helen Goldenfield spawned under the generic "commoner_human_female" template, her appearance was randomized under one of twelve possible depictions. She appeared consistently a Human female, however.[1]

The "Hero of Tatooine" questline was extensively revamped upon the introduction of the "Publish 25", a.k.a. the "New Game Enhancements," on November 15, 2005,[6] but the "Honor" portion involving the Goldenfield family was not altered.[1]

  2. According to its opening crawl, Star Wars Galaxies was set sometime after Star Wars: Episode IV A New Hope. The only precise time indication in the game was given by the character Ruwan Tokai, who referenced the destruction of the Death Star at the Battle of Yavin as occurring one year earlier, placing the game sometime around 1 ABY. Later, multiple elements confirmed the placement of the game storyline in 1 ABY. First, The Essential Reader's Companion established that the tie-in novel Star Wars Galaxies: The Ruins of Dantooine took place in 1 ABY. Furthermore, the game expansion Star Wars Galaxies: Rage of the Wookiees was set during the Blockade of Kashyyyk, one year after the Battle of Yavin according to The Star Wars Holiday Special. Additionally, the main scenario of The Nightsister's Revenge from the Star Wars Galaxies Trading Card Game was set over a year before the Battle of Hoth (3 ABY), so around 1.5 ABY. Finally, the reference book Strongholds of Resistance placed the events of Star Wars Galaxies's Chapter 9: "The Fury of Exar Kun" one year after the Battle of Yavin. Of note, Galaxies's Chapter 11: "The Battle of Echo Base" introduced the Battle of Hoth in the game. However, the developers were quite clear that this was only intended to be a completely isolated "Star Wars Moment" without any effect on continuity for the rest of the game.
