"I started comin' to Falleen years ago to fish the Hocekureem Sea for fleek eel, which is considered a delicacy by every species I've ever served it to. These days, due to high demand, you've gotta be licensed to fish for fleeks (which I ain't). But as they say, there are plenty of other aquatic creatures in the large bodies of liquid."
―Strono Tuggs, The Ultimate Cookbook[1]

The Hocekureem Sea was a body of water on the Mid Rim planet Falleen,[1] homeworld of the Falleen species.[2] It was inhabited by fish and fleek eels, the latter of which the Artiodac chef Strono Tuggs started visiting Falleen to catch years prior to a culinary tour of the galaxy that he took[1] between 34 ABY and 35 ABY.[3] By the time Tuggs visited Falleen during the tour, a license was required to fish for fleek eels due to the high demand for them given their status as a delicacy. Lacking a license, Tuggs instead netted fish in the Hocekureem Sea and used them to create Hocekureem Filet, mentioning the sea when he included the recipe for the dish in his third cookbook, The Ultimate Cookbook, which was published[1] in 35 ABY.[3]

Behind the scenes[]

In the current Star Wars canon, the Hocekureem Sea was mentioned in the 2023 Star Wars: The Ultimate Cookbook, a recipe book written by Jenn Fujikawa and Marc Sumerak.[1] The sea originated in the Star Wars Legends continuity, where it was first mentioned in the 1996 novel Shadows of the Empire novelization, which was written by Steve Perry.[4]

  3. 3.0 3.1 Star Wars: The Ultimate Cookbook establishes that the publishing of the in-universe The Ultimate Cookbook and the culinary tour that preceded it occurred following the publishing of The Official Black Spire Outpost Cookbook and prior to the destruction of Kijimi. It also establishes that The Ultimate Cookbook was published following the Festival of the Ancestors that occurred during that time period. Star Wars: Galaxy's Edge: The Official Black Spire Outpost Cookbook further establishes that The Official Black Spire Outpost Cookbook was published concurrently with the First Order's search for the Resistance base on Batuu, which Star Wars: Timelines dates to 34 ABY. In addition, Timelines dates the Festival of the Ancestors and the destruction of Kijimi to 35 ABY, meaning the tour must have taken place between 34 ABY and 35 ABY and The Ultimate Cookbook must have been published in 35 ABY.
