Hoojibs were a sentient species of small, white-furred beings from the planet Arbra. They had long ears and an antenna on the top of their heads, and moved on four legs. The smugglers Han Solo and Chewbacca brought a Hoojib for the menagerie of the crime lord Jabba the Hutt, hoping to win his favor, though the critter was not what it had seemed.
Biology and appearance
Hoojibs were a sentient species of small, white-furred beings from the planet Arbra. They had long ears and an antenna on the top of their heads, and moved on four legs. Despite being regarded as a creature by most other sentient beings, Hoojibs possessed telepathic capabilities allowing them to communicate silently with others. Hoojibs were also capable of audible vocalizations, most commonly produced as verbal cries of "yi". Much like mynocks, Hoojibs had an energy-based diet, feeding on the energy crystals of their homeworld. They were also capable of sucking the energy out of electronics, droids, and even starships.
Hoojibs originated on the planet Arbra, where a majority of the population lived in a single cave subsisting on the energy crystals inside. Plif, a Hoojib male, operated as the spokesperson for the species.
At one point, Nimbanel criminal Bralem Mopak captured many of the Hoojibs on Arbra, posing as a trader that sold the beings as exotic pets. In reality, Mopak was sending Hoojibs, including Plif, to other criminal elements, forcing them to act as spies and send intelligence back to him on Arbra. When the smugglers Han Solo and Chewbacca visited Arbra to collect a Hoojib for the menagerie of the crime lord Jabba the Hutt, Mopak gave them a caged Plif, who the smugglers took back to Jabba's Palace on Tatooine. Though Jabba rejected the supposed animal, Plif sent information on a deal the Hutt was set to make with the trader Zikk Keradd, who Mopak subsequently made contact with and convinced to ally with himself instead of Jabba. After Jabba imprisoned Solo and Chewbacca, believing they were responsible for the deal with Keradd falling through, Plif freed them and informed the two of the situation on Arbra. Solo and Chewbacca returned Plif to Arbra to mount a rescue, though Solo let himself and Chewbacca get caught so that Plif would rally his fellow Hoojibs to escape and overthrow Mopak. The Hoojibs were successful, and remained behind on Arbra.
