"Hutt and Seek" is a short story written by Chris Cassidy and Tish Pahl which appeared in the Tales from the New Republic short-story anthology published by Bantam Spectra in December 1999. It was originally scheduled to be published in Star Wars Adventure Journal 16, but that issue was cancelled. It featured the characters Fenig Nabon and Ghitsa Dogder and was set in 8 ABY.
Plot summary[]
The smuggling-and-con-artist duo of Fenig Nabon and Ghitsa Dogder hire a pair of Mistryl Shadow Warriors, Shada D'ukal and Dunc T'racen, to help them transport a cargo of Twi'lek slave girls to Nal Hutta. The proud warrior women are put off by this unsavory assignment. The Shadow Warriors hijack the vessel, eject Fenig and Ghitsa from the ship in an escape pod, and return the Twi'lek slaves to Ryloth – all of which is exactly what Ghitsa had hoped for when she hired them. With their cargo now stolen, Ghitsa is able to report to her client and benefactor, Durga the Hutt, that the Karazak Slavers' Cooperative has stolen the Twi'leks. This allows Fenig and Ghitsa to leave Durga's employ and stir up trouble among slaving criminals while sparing the Twi'leks from slavery.
Continuity[]
A news report within the story makes it clear that it occurred during the events of The Courtship of Princess Leia (1994), though early in the tale, Fenig reflected on her two years of partnership with Ghitsa. That estimate should be closer to four years given the timing of the story "A Credit for Your Thoughts" (2000).[1]
