- "You can find a Hyperdrive yard where I marked it on your datapad. Mind you, I'm not going to help you with blowing up the place, but it sure will keep me warm at night knowing they got their just desserts for snubbing me."
- ―A commoner, to a spacer
The Hyperdrive Research Facility was a research facility of the Galactic Empire on the Nabooian moon Rori.
History[]
- "I used to work on making some real fine hyperdrives for them, but then they went off and bought my company right out from under me. That place used to be mine, and I swear I'm not going to see it owned by anyone else!"
- ―A commoner, to a spacer
The Hyperdrive Research Facility was home to some of the top hyperdrive research in the galaxy.[1] It was originally a Rorian company that manufactured hyperdrive systems for the Galactic Empire. However, at some point, the Empire decided to buy the facility and forced its owner to sell the company.[3]
After the Battle of Yavin, the facility was staffed by a number of Imperial forces, including stormtrooper riflemen and a Brigadier General.[1]
In 1 ABY,[4] the Imperial Hyperdrive Research Facility had become a contested hotspot in the Galactic Civil War and Imperial and Rebel forces fought several times for the control of the facility. Rebel forces managed to capture the facility several times but Imperial forces had always taken it back.[2]
Behind the scenes[]
The Hyperdrive Research Facility was a location in the 2003 massively multiplayer online roleplaying game Star Wars Galaxies: An Empire Divided,[1] prior to the game's closure on December 15, 2011.[5] With the release of the "Publish 1" update on August 3, 2003,[6] the Imperial Stronghold was turned into a "Factional NPC Base". Groups of Rebel players could attack Imperial NPCs and achieve several objectives to take control of the base.[2]

- ↑ According to its opening crawl, Star Wars Galaxies was set sometime after Star Wars: Episode IV A New Hope. The only precise time indication in the game was given by the character Ruwan Tokai, who referenced the destruction of the Death Star at the Battle of Yavin as occurring one year earlier, placing the game sometime around 1 ABY. Later, multiple elements confirmed the placement of the game storyline in 1 ABY. First, The Essential Reader's Companion established that the tie-in novel Star Wars Galaxies: The Ruins of Dantooine took place in 1 ABY. Furthermore, the game expansion Star Wars Galaxies: Rage of the Wookiees was set during the Blockade of Kashyyyk, one year after the Battle of Yavin according to The Star Wars Holiday Special. Additionally, the main scenario of The Nightsister's Revenge from the Star Wars Galaxies Trading Card Game was set over a year before the Battle of Hoth (3 ABY), so around 1.5 ABY. Finally, the reference book Strongholds of Resistance placed the events of Star Wars Galaxies's Chapter 9: "The Fury of Exar Kun" one year after the Battle of Yavin. Of note, Galaxies's Chapter 11: "The Battle of Echo Base" introduced the Battle of Hoth in the game. However, the developers were quite clear that this was only intended to be a completely isolated "Star Wars Moment" without any effect on continuity for the rest of the game.
