- "Sir, I noticed earlier the hyperdrive motivator has been damaged. It's impossible to go to lightspeed!"
- ―C-3PO to Han Solo
The hyperdrive motivator was an essential component of a hyperdrive. Without a functioning hyperdrive motivator, it was impossible for a starship to achieve lightspeed by entering hyperspace.[1]
The Ithorian known as "Old Jho" owned a freighter with a hyperdrive motivator that he described as being a "bit iffy," but one that nevertheless could hold for short trips.[2]
During the escape from Cloud City, Imperial forces sabotaged the hyperdrive motivator of the Millennium Falcon in an attempt to prevent the group's escape and deal a crippling blow to the Rebel Alliance. R2-D2, however, was able to correct the problem, allowing the hyperspace jump to be made.[1]
