Hypergems were incredibly rare and valuable aperiodic diamondoids that were formed in the cores of neutron stars.
Effects on sentients
Hypergems had crystalline planar networks that extended into higher dimensions. Attempting to take in the multidimensional lattice with a brain that was accustomed to only three spatial dimensions and one temporal could cause some species to go insane, while others found the gem to be something of unsurpassed beauty and would starve to death simply staring at it. The Falleen were a species known to be resistant to most of the hypergem's mental effects, and Prince Xizor was rumored to stare at a hypergem and then tear himself away from it just to test his willpower.
