The IG-88 assassin droid,[6] also known as the IG-88 series droid,[7] was the model of a set of five identical assassin droids[8] manufactured by Holowan Laboratories.[9] Upon their activation, the droids slaughtered their constructors and escaped their laboratories into the galaxy.[8]
One of these droids, IG-88B,[10] was an independently programmed IG-88 assassin droid[11] who fought as a war droid[3] and became a feared bounty hunter. He was typically simply referred to as IG-88.[11] IG-88D[12] and IG-88C were also IG-88 series units that worked as bounty hunters.[13] While IG-88A planned to overthrow organic life.[7]
