The Senate Office Building,^[2] also called the Republic executive building or Senate executive building,^[3] was a dome shaped office building located near the Senate Building on the planet Coruscant. The executive building contained the offices of several Republic senators, a number of landing bays, and the Chancellor's office which was located near the top.^[1] It was from the executive building that Supreme Chancellor Sheev Palpatine directed the Republic's efforts during the Clone Wars. When the Jedi discovered Palpatine's true identity as the Sith Lord Darth Sidious, four Jedi Masters, including Mace Windu, attempted to arrest him in his offices. Palpatine engaged them in a lightsaber duel in which he killed three before Windu ultimately overpowered him; However, before Windu could strike the killing blow, Jedi Knight Anakin Skywalker stormed into the Chancellor's office and demanded that Palpatine be left alive, as he believed Palpatine held the key to helping Skywalker keep his wife, Padmé Amidala, alive. Windu refused to allow the Chancellor to live, and Skywalker severed his arm, allowing Palpatine to kill Windu with force lightning and sending the dead Jedi's body out the sprawling office window. Palpatine then issued Order 66, declaring all Jedi to be enemies of the state.^[4]
