Imperial armored commandos,[5] also known as Imperial commandos,[6] or Imperial Super Commando guards[7] were special forces commando[1] stormtroopers[2] that were active during the New Republic Era, and served under the command of the warlord Moff Gideon, a member of the Shadow Council.
Description[]
The Imperial armored commandos were similar to jetpack troopers because of their jetpacks, although instead of wearing the plastoid armor of the stormtrooper as protection, theirs was made of beskar, which Gideon's Imperial remnant gained access to by taking the since devastated planet of Mandalore. This made the troopers much more resistant and durable than regular soldiers, even being able to stand up to an army of Mandalorians, who were famous for being skilled warriors.[1]
The commandos were equipped with white blaster-resistant armor, resembling the classic stormtrooper armor, made with an alloy of beskar, like that of Mandalorian armor, along with jetpacks, vambraces, and blasters. Commandos that either escorted Moff Gideon or guarded the door to Gideon's command center had red-painted vambraces, leg armor, and red stripes on the sides of their helmets.[1] The commandos had better aim than the average stormtrooper.[6] Their gear included powerful blaster rifles, a SE-14r light repeating blaster or a long-barrel blaster pistol as a backup weapon, flamethrowers, whipcord launchers, jetpacks, and a vibro-knife in their right leg sheath. Commandos that guarded the shield barriers were equipped with riot shields and electro riot batons.[1]
Behind the scenes[]
The Imperial armored commandos debuted in "Chapter 23: The Spies," the penultimate episode of the third season of The Mandalorian, which aired on April 12, 2023.[1] The commandos were identified in the audio description of the episode.[5] The design of the commandos seemingly paid homage to Ralph McQuarrie and Joe Johnston's super trooper design, which later became Boba Fett.[6]
