The Infantry Support Platform, also known as the Infantry Support Platform speeder, the clone swamp speeder, swamp speeder, ISP speeder, or simply as the ISP,was a military repulsorcraft that was used by the Galactic Republic during the Clone Wars. It was used in the Battle of Kashyyyk and a battle on Felucia against the Separatist Droid Army.
Characteristics
The Infantry Support Platform,[2] alternatively known as the Infantry Support Platform speeder, the clone swamp speeder, the swamp speeder, ISP speeder, or simply as the ISP, was a repulsorcraft speeder produced by Uulshos Manufacturing and built from the foundation of a standard BARC speeder. As such, and because of its powerful turbofan and repulsors, it was able to easily operate on most terrain quickly and smoothly, making the speeder convenient for a range of combat situations.[1]
The ISP speeder could attain speeds of 100 kilometers per hour, had a length of five meters, and was equipped with two frontal twin swiveling blaster cannons which were capable of disabling larger vehicles. The two pilots sat towards the rear on the side of the central repulsorlift, and the turbofan was housed at the central rear of the speeder.[1]
Role
Although the ISP speeder could travel through most terrain, since it was originally designed for patrolling swamps, it earned the nickname "swamp speeder" by clone troopers. It's weapons allowed it to combat larger enemy vehicles, and as such, effectively support infantry units.[1]
History
The ISP speeders were utilized by the Galactic Republic towards the end of the Clone Wars against the Separatist Alliance, particularly seeing service during the Battle of Kashyyyk and the Outer Rim Sieges. On Kashyyyk, the ISP speeders were used in conjunction with HAVw A6 Juggernauts, AT-APs, clone scout troopers, and Wookiee Warriors against the Separatist Droid Army. ISP speeders were also utilized in the Battle of Felucia as part of the sieges, as they escorted AT-AP walkers, AT-TEs and AT-OTs. They were present on Felucia when Order 66 was issued by Supreme Chancellor Sheev Palpatine.[3]
Behind the scenes
The ISP speeder first appeared in the 2005 episodic film, Star Wars: Episode III Revenge of the Sith[3] and were later identified as the Infantry Support Platform in Star Wars: The Visual Encyclopedia, a canon reference book released in 2017.[2]
