"I am the future."
―The Sixth Brother[src]

Inquisitor was a rank used within the Galactic Empire's Inquisitorius Program. As high-ranking members of the Galactic Empire, their main purview was hunting surviving Jedi in the aftermath of Order 66 for elimination or induction to act as Emperor Palpatine's dark side agents.

Inquisitors inducted into the ranks of the Inquisitorius left behind their names and took up new ones, being labelled Brother/Sister denoting their sexes.[5]

Roles and power[]

A high-ranking title within the Galactic Empire[6], Inquisitors were mainly tasked with identifying and either capturing young force sensitives or eliminating force sensitive individuals, including former Jedi Knights, Padawans, and those originating from other force-wielding traditions.[4] Inquisitors also acted as enforcers, eliminating threats such as rebel factions and Republic sympathizers.[7] Their nature, objective, and membership were kept secret from most other branches of the Empire.[4]

As agents under the command of the Darth Vader[1], Inquisitors held a high status in the Empire and had discretionary authority to commandeer and command Imperial assets required to complete their mission[4] and commanded Purge Troopers.[8] Select Inquisitors also held a commander status within the ranks of Inquisitorius.[9] Inquisitors were subordinate to the Grand Inquisitor and other select high-ranking Imperial ranks such as the Grand Moff.[4]

Skills and training[]

Initially during their first years, the Inquisitors were weak in the dark side of the Force and their fighting style reminiscent of their Jedi training. In order to rectify this weakness, Darth Vader trained them to change fighting style from a defensive style to offensive. Some of Vader's training sessions caused some Inquisitors to lose limbs as a lesson in loss. As servants of the Sith, Darth Sidious also ensured they weren't privy to all the knowledge and skills of a Sith Lord.[10] In time, Inquisitors within Inquisitorius grew in power and skill, became powerful and being considered some of the most skilled fighters in the galaxy, though none more so than their masters.[4]

Both the Second Sister and Seventh Sister were examples of distinguished Inquisitors, considered among of the most deadly and elite of Jedi hunters in the Imperial Inquisition.[9][11]

The Inquisitors wore black and grey bodysuits with armor and were equipped with crimson-bladed lightsabers, typically of the double-bladed spinning lightsaber, double bladed lightsabers equipped with a spinning mechanism that allows the saber to be spun automatically in order to improve the ability to deflect incoming attacks.[4][8]

In 19 BBY, the rank of Inquisitor was active in the aftermath of the Order 66. Fearing the threat the surviving Jedi posed to his rule, Emperor Palpatine created the Inquisitors to track down and corrupt or eliminate the last remaining Jedi.[12] In 14 BBY, both Second Sister and Ninth Sister hunted for the Jedi Padawan survivor, Cal Kestis and the Stinger Mantis crew. The former took a personal interest in Kestis, wanting to find Cordova's holocron, which containing a a copy of a list of force sensitive children made during the final days of the Jedi Order, and win the favor of Emperor Palpatine. Both the Second Sister and Ninth Sister were ultimately defeat by the Cal Kestis, with the former having a change of faith after her former Jedi Master, Cere Junda, apologized for her role in her transformation as an Inquisitor. With Darth Vader perceiving her change of fate as failure, she is executed by the Dark Lord.[8]

Blaise Zirkonn, a Force-sensitive agent of the Inquisitor who worked with the organization for nearly a decade, hoped to be promoted to Inquisitor.[3] In 4 BBY, after the death of the Grand Inquisitor, Seventh Sister became a vital commander within the ranks of Inquisitorius.[9] Herself and other inquisitors also sought to ultimately replace their previous leader as the new Grand Inquisitor.[13]
