The Instigator was a Raider-class corvette that served the Imperial Navy during the Imperial Era.[1] The 150-meter-long[2] corvette featured sublight engines and five twin laser cannons. At one point, the Instigator traveled through asteroids.[1]
Behind the scenes[]
Notable mentions[]
The Instigator was first mentioned in the current Star Wars canon in "Fast and Aggressive," a preview for the Imperial Raider Expansion Pack released by Fantasy Flight Games for the miniatures game Star Wars: Armada. The preview was released on September 18, 2015.[3] Artwork of the Instigator was created by Anthony Devine.[4]
This artwork was reused from the Star Wars Legends continuity's Imperial Raider Expansion Pack for Fantasy Flight Games' Star Wars: X-Wing Miniatures Game.[5] In this continuity, the Instigator was first shown in a preview for the expansion titled "Here Comes the Imperial Raider," published on December 19, 2014, although the corvette's name was obscured.[6] The name Instigator was revealed in another preview, "The Will of the Empire," which was published on August 10, 2015.[7]
Discrepancies and unreleased products[]

Artwork of the Assailer was used on a card titled "Instigator."
On November 8, 2019,[8] the Huge Ship Conversion Kit for Fantasy Flight Games' miniatures game Star Wars: X-Wing Second Edition was released. In the kit, a card titled "Instigator" featured artwork[9] previously used to depict the Raider-class corvette Assailer in Legends.[10] Likewise, a card titled "Assailer" featured artwork[11] used on all previous depictions of the Instigator.[1][5] The Upgrade Card Collection for Star Wars Armada, released on November 4, 2020,[12] reverted to the original depiction of the Instigator.[13] Given other reported misprints within the Huge Ship Conversion Kit,[14] this article assumes both cards' titles were erroneously swapped.
A card titled "Instigator" was listed in the contents of the Imperial Raider Expansion Pack for X-Wing Second Edition.[15] Although announced on August 7, 2019,[16] the expansion remains unreleased.
