The Invulnerable was a Providence-class Dreadnought, that served within the naval branch of the Separatist Alliance during the Clone Wars. The warship was utilized as the command ship and flagship of Harch Separatist Admiral Trench in a campaign on the planet Anaxes amid the Outer Rim Sieges in 19 BBY. It also served as the primary warship of Trench's fleet during the battle, which fought to claim control over vital Galactic Republic shipyards on the surface.

Towards the battle's end, however, a squad of Republic clone commandos led by Jedi General Anakin Skywalker infiltrated the Invulnerable during their effort to reclaim Anaxes from the Confederacy. Aboard the dreadnought, the Republic utilized the warship's communication systems to activate an engineered feedback pulse, which deactivated the Separatist Droid Army fighting on the surface. Thereafter, the Harch was killed aboard his flagship following his activation of a bomb in the manufacturing facility, which in turn led to the Invulnerable's destruction by an implemented self-destruct mechanism.

Description[]

A Providence-class Dreadnought, the Invulnerable was constructed in the manufacturing facilities on the planet Pammant by the Quarren builders of Free Dac Volunteers Engineering Corps.[1] In possession of a command bridge, from which the vessel was operated by a crew of B1-series battle droids, the dreadnought was propelled by three Creveld-4 radial ion drives manufactured by Nubia Star Drives, Inc.,[3] which were located at its stern. The Invulernable was also equipped with a starboard hangar bay,[2] alongside several communications and sensor masts situated along the hull of its dorsal surface.[4] To an additional degree, the warship was armed with various weapon systems across its hull,[2] such as numerous heavy quad turbolaser cannons and dual heavy laser cannons, the former of which were located along its dorsal and starboard surface and the latter along its ventral hull.[5]

The Invulernable was also equipped with onboard scanning systems, which were capable of detecting approaching vessels, as well as their starship class. Within its interior, from where the warship carried several B1-series battle droids, B2-series super battle droids and BX-series droid commandos, the dreadnought contained a series of hallways and corridors that were patrolled by security droids. Its interior also possessed an area from which the vessel's communications vault, constructed amid the Battle of Anaxes, was located. The Invulernable's communications vault could be operated by an individual equipped with a scomp link, from where they could access the vessel's transmitters and relay instructions to ground forces or the warship's command bridge.[2]

Aboard the bridge itself, the operating crew was provided with a 180-degree panoramic view of the surrounding space from multiple viewports. It also possessed several display screens for its crew and commanding officer, the Separatist Alliance Admiral Trench, to observe surface engagements and for its crew to operate the vessel's systems. Furthermore, the Invulernable was armed with an implemented self-destruct mechanism, which was initiated by a remote detonator located aboard the command bridge.[2]

History[]

Fighting for Anaxes[]

In 19 BBY,[7] during the final weeks[8] of the Clone Wars fought between the Galactic Republic and Confederacy of Independent Systems,[9] the planet[10] Anaxes, which served as one of the Republic's largest shipyards[9] and strongholds[8] during the war, was assaulted by Confederacy forces under the command of Harch Admiral Trench. Commanding the battle at the head of a Separatist fleet in orbit from his flagship,[9] Invulnerable, Trench was able to secure several key early victories through his droid forces,[8] while also thinning the Republic's control over the world as a result of mounting losses and heated engagements.[9]

However, later in the engagement, Trench, aboard the Invulnerable, who had been suspected to have been countering the Republic's tactics through a clone trooper-designed strategy algorithm, was alerted by his forces of an established connection with the Techno Union world of Skako Minor, which the Separatist dreadnought had received the counteractive information to the Republic's engagements from.[9] As a result, the Separatist admiral contacted the Techno Union's leader, Foreman Wat Tambor, from the Invulnerable of the Republic's discovery of the algorithm's signal as he expressed that the corporation's operations were potentially jeopardized.[11]

Republic infiltration[]

"While Master Windu leads a team to retake the assembly complex, the Bad Batch will escort me into Trench's new comm vault, which, according to current intel, is now located on this Separatist Dreadnought above Anaxes."
―Echo, explaining his plan to defeat Trench[2]

Following the Republic's mission to Skako Minor, Jedi General Anakin Skywalker, alongside the clone commando squad Clone Force 99 returned to Anaxes with the Advanced Recon Commando clone trooper, CT-1409, otherwise known as "Echo," who had once been thought dead. Upon their return, the Republic began to strategize their reclamation of the planet, to which Echo explained that while Republic forces led by Jedi General Mace Windu assaulted the assembly complex, the clone trooper would be brought aboard the Invulnerable into the dreadnought's newly established communications vault by Clone Force 99.[2]

As the Republic's infiltration team approached the Invulnerable, the team's Omicron-class attack shuttle Marauder was detected by the dreadnought's battle droid crew, who allowed the shuttle to land following its concealment as one of the Confederacy's shuttles. In response, the Marauder docked with the dreadnought's ventral docking bay as Skywalker, Echo and Clone Force 99 made their way to the communications vault. However, upon Windu's assault on the assembly complex, the Invulnerable transmitted a request to the Techno Union in an effort to coordinate a counterattack on the Republic through the strategy algorithm. As a result, Echo, who had gained access to the dreadnought's systems, intercepted Trench's transmission and secretly provided a new strategy, which stated that all Separatist ground forces were to be mobilized to the assembly plant, as the Republic would not dispatch reinforcements and would put all their faith in the Jedi.[2]

Destruction[]

"I've got a present for you, Wrecker."
"Oh, seriously? I get to blow it up? The whole stinkin' thing?! This is the happiest day of my life."
―Anakin Skywalker allows Wrecker to blow up the Invulnerable — (audio) Listen (file info)[2]

Following the arrival of the Separatist forces in the assembly complex, Echo proceeded to transmit a feedback pulse, which deactivated all battle droids engaged on the surface. As Trench observed the battle, the Harch grew frustrated as a result of the droid army's deactivation, to which Trench's tactical droid informed him of their detection of an energy surge and subsequently detected its origination from aboard the Invulnerable. Responding to the energy pulse, the Harch ordered the dispatchment of security droids to attack the infiltrators, as well as relayed subsequent orders on the activation of a bomb hidden within the assembly complex that was large enough to destroy most of the planet.[2]

However, while Echo provided the codes to deactivate the bomb, the clone trooper was prevented from relaying the final number as a result of signal jamming from the dreadnought's crew. As a result, as Trench proceeded to make his escape from the Invulnerable, the Harch was forced into providing the final number following an incursion aboard the command bridge by Skywalker, which subsequently led to Trench's death at the Jedi's hands. While leaving the dreadnought aboard their shuttle, which followed a brief engagement with several battle droids, the Invulnerable was destroyed alongside several other Separatist warships by the activation of a self-destruct mechanism by the clone commando Wrecker.[2]

Commanders and crew[]

Commanded by the Harch Separatist Admiral Trench, the Invulnerable was operated by a crew of several B1-series battle droids from the vessel's command bridge. The dreadnought was also maintained to by Trench's personal ST-series military strategic analysis and tactics droid, who informed the Harch of ongoing surface engagements.[2]

Behind the scenes[]

The Invulnerable was introduced, although only in the episode's opening newsreels, in "The Bad Batch,"[9] the first episode of the seventh season of the Star Wars: The Clone Wars television series,[12] which aired on February 21, 2020.[13] It later made its full appearance in "Unfinished Business,"[2] the seventh season's fourth episode,[14] which aired on March 13, 2020.[15] The dreadnought was later identified in the 2021 reference book Star Wars: Battles that Changed the Galaxy.[8]
