Iziz was the capital city of the Inner Rim planet Onderon. During the Clone Wars, the city was host to several battles that made up the Onderonian Civil War, in which the Onderon rebels, backed by the Galactic Republic, overthrew the forcibly-installed Separatist administration.
Description[]
Iziz served as the capital city[4] of the Inner Rim[3] planet Onderon. It was surrounded by large walls, which protected its population from Onderon's dangerous jungles. The primary entrance to the city was across a bridge that was defended by turrets and a ray shield.[6] Following the invasion of Onderon during the Clone Wars[7] and ensuing Separatist rule of the city, battle droids would search any persons who wished to enter the city.[6]

Iziz's Malgan Market
Those who entered the city were immediately thrust into the crowded courtyards of Malgan Market. Primarily humans made up the traffic in addition to speeders and riding beasts such as the tee-muss or the fambaa.[6] At the center of the city was the Unifar Temple,[8] the palace of the Onderonian monarchs.[4] In addition to being the tallest building in the city, the temple sat slightly above the main group of buildings. A gradual slope naturally led occupants from the main marketplaces near Iziz's entrance towards Yolahn Square, which was right at the foot of the temple. At the edge of the city, the main power generator was guarded by another wall. Iziz had little vegetation, but some ferns did decorate the outsides of various buildings.[6]
Architecturally, Iziz made use of rigid lines, prominent in the rectangular nature of most of the buildings in addition to pyramidal structures like the Unifar Temple, as well as arches, which were a common style for doorways or other entrances. Furthermore, some buildings included pillars. Many of the buildings were light or dark brown and had blue roofs. The Unifar Temple had a blue and yellow color scheme.[6]
History[]

The Separatist Droid Army at Iziz's main gates
During the Clone Wars, Iziz was occupied by the Confederacy of Independent Systems after King Sanjay Rash allied with them. A large number of B1-battle droids, B2-series super battle droids, DSD1 dwarf spider droids, droidekas,[6] and later, commando droids and HMP droid gunships[3] were stationed in Iziz in addition to vehicles such as the Multi-Troop Transport and the Armored Assault Tank.[6] Rash's actions led the Onderon rebels to oppose him,[4] eventually becoming active in Iziz to overthrow Rash and restore the former king, Ramsis Dendup, to the throne.[6]
Behind the scenes[]
The city of Iziz first appeared in the 1993 Star Wars Legends comic Tales of the Jedi: Ulic Qel-Droma and the Beast Wars of Onderon.[9] It went onto appear prominently in the 2004 video game Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic II: The Sith Lords.[10] The city was brought into canon in "A War on Two Fronts," the second episode of the fifth season of the animated television series Star Wars: The Clone Wars.[9]
