Jeffrey Jacob "J.J." Abrams (born June 27, 1966) is an American film and television producer, screenwriter, director, actor, and composer. He directed, co-wrote and co-produced Star Wars: Episode VII The Force Awakens and Star Wars: Episode IX The Rise of Skywalker, and served as executive producer for Star Wars: Episode VIII The Last Jedi.

In the late 2000s, he was interviewed several times for StarWars.com and Star Wars: The Legacy Revealed.
In January 2013, it was announced that Abrams would direct and co-produce Star Wars: Episode VII The Force Awakens, alongside his longtime producing partner, Bryan Burk, and Abrams' production company, Bad Robot.[2] That October, it was revealed that Abrams had also taken over screenwriting duties for the film, working alongside Lawrence Kasdan following the departure of Michael Arndt.[3] Together with Lin-Manuel Miranda, Abrams also co-wrote and provided vocals for "Jabba Flow" and "Dobra Doompa," musical pieces which feature in the Maz Kanata scenes. The Force Awakens was released in theaters on December 18, 2015.
Abrams went on to be executive producer of 2017's Star Wars: Episode VIII The Last Jedi. In September of that year, he was hired to be the director and co-producer of Star Wars: Episode IX The Rise of Skywalker, after the film's original director, Colin Trevorrow, left the project due to creative differences with Lucasfilm.[4] For the film, he co-wrote the screenplay with Chris Terrio. Abrams once again collaborated with Lin-Manuel Miranda to create the songs "Lindo Hey" which featured at the Festival of the Ancestors on Pasaana, and "Oma's Place" which is heard in Oma Tres' bar before entering Babu Frik's workshop on Kijimi. Abrams also voiced the droid D-O. The Rise of Skywalker was released in theaters on December 20, 2019.
