Jango Fett: Open Seasons 3 is the third issue of the Star Wars: Jango Fett: Open Seasons comic series, released on July 17, 2002.

Publisher's summary[]

Before he became the galaxy's most dangerous bounty hunter, Jango Fett endured many trials. His parents were murdered, he joined an outlaw gang of mercenaries, and now, after taking command of the vicious Mandalorian warriors, Jango finds himself working for a corrupt governor on the wasteland world of Galidraan. When Fett and his soldiers are implicated in a heinous killing spree, the Republic dispatches the guardians of peace and freedom, the Jedi, to stop the Mandalorians. With no way to prove his innocence, Fett must fight to retain his freedom. But in this battle he must face a most powerful adversary—the legendary Jedi Master, Count Dooku.

Plot summary[]

The Governor of Galidraan had secretly been hiding the Death Watch on his world. He was also facing an insurrection by some of his colonists, so he hired the True Mandalorians, under Jango Fett, to eliminate the rebels, which they did. However, under the advice of the Death Watch leader, Vizsla, the governor also informed the Jedi Council that a group of Mandalorians were murdering "political activists." A group of Jedi were dispatched to the planet to deal with the Mandalorians, led by Jedi Master Dooku and his Padawan Komari Vosa. In the resulting battle, the True Mandalorians on the planet were wiped out. Jango, the sole survivor, became enraged and demonstrated his amazing physical abilities by killing many of the attacking Jedi with his bare hands before finally surrendering. The Jedi turned Jango over to the custody of the Galidraan government and the governor had Jango sold into slavery. The Death Watch were victorious.

Continuity[]

The flashback portion of this issue states that it takes place 12 years before the Battle of Geonosis, or 34 BBY. However, later sources have shifted that date; The New Essential Chronology placed it at 40 BBY, The Cestus Deception gave it an implied placement of around 43 BBY, and Jedi vs. Sith: The Essential Guide to the Force, The Official Star Wars Fact File and the Star Wars: The Ultimate Visual Guide placed it at 44 BBY while the Star Wars: The Ultimate Visual Guide: Special Edition placed it at 44 BBY and also made reference to "two years before the Battle of Naboo," which would mean 34 BBY. Two different dates (44 BBY and 41 BBY) were also given for the battle in the Star Wars Annual 2008. In addition, the databank article on Antidar Williams, written by a fan for a What's The Story? contest, places the battle several years after the 44 BBY Stark Hyperspace War. The Essential Atlas again places it at 44 BBY. Galaxy at War dates the end of the war (and therefore this battle) to 34 BBY, the first resource to corroborate the original dating. This article uses the 44 BBY date because a plurality of recent sources use it.
