"Can you tell me where the Jawas went?"
"Sure, to their trading fort. Here are the directions."
―A spacer and Peggin Dulin[3]

The Jawa mountain fortress, also known as the Jawa Trading Outpost, was a settlement on the desert planet Tatooine inhabited by Jawas as a center of trade and commerce during the time of the Galactic Civil War.[1]

History[]

"My master bids you good day, and asks what you are interested in buying."
C4-ZX, to a spacer[3]

This fortress on Tatooine was abandoned at an unknown point in history, before being inhabited by the Jawas some time before the Battle of Yavin. They then turned the fortress into a giant bazaar.[4]

It was considered to be one of the few places the Jawas could call home. It was a permanent gathering place for Jawas who wanted to sell or trade goods in their bustling bazaar. Sandcrawlers could also be found parked at the fortress.[1] The fortress was the largest, permanent gathering place for the Jawa on the planet Tatooine.[5] Jawa tribes, settlers, thieves, and visitors from all over Tatooine met at the fortress to buy, sell, and bargain. The fortress also shelters desperate fugitives.[4]

In 1 ABY,[6] the Jawa trader Ji'Ni Sil was approached by a spacer who was looking for a body casing from a R2 unit that once belonged to Peggin Dulin and was later salvaged by Jawas. The droid was actually wanted by both Imperial Commander Barrezz and Rebel Captain Bastra. Ji'Ni Sil's droid, C4-ZX, informed the spacer that the droid casing was already sold to a robonium miner. Despite the miner was killed by Tusken Raiders, the spacer finally managed to retrieve the casing.[3]

Behind the scenes[]

The Jawa Mountain Fortress appeared in the video game Star Wars Galaxies, a massively multiplayer online roleplaying game developed by Sony and published by LucasArts,[1] prior to its closure on December 15, 2011.[7]

  6. The opening crawl of Star Wars Galaxies: An Empire Divided dates the game to after the events of Star Wars: Episode IV A New Hope, and additionally, Serji-X Arrogantus, who died in Star Wars (1977) 10—the events of which The New Essential Chronology dates to 0 ABY—appears in the game. Therefore, at least a portion of Star Wars Galaxies must be set in that year. Furthermore, in the game Ruwan Tokai references the destruction of the Death Star as having occurred one year earlier, and Strongholds of Resistance also places the events of Galaxies' Chapter 9: "The Fury of Exar Kun" in 1 ABY. Lastly, while Chapter 11: "The Battle of Echo Base" features the Battle of Hoth—dated to 3 ABY by The New Essential Chronology—the developers have stated that the portrayal of that battle in the game is intentionally anachronistic. Therefore, the events of Star Wars Galaxies must span from 0 ABY to around 1 ABY.
