Plot summary[]
When the Jedi are called in to help pacify the chaotic planet of Mawan, it should be a routine mission. But behind the chaos on the planet an evil is hiding. The diplomatic mission to "persuade" the planetary crimelords to evacuate goes horribly wrong and, in a shocking moment, a longtime member of the Jedi High Council, Yaddle, is killed … with Anakin feeling responsible. It takes the combined strength of Yoda, Anakin, and Obi-Wan to fight this battle.

Publisher's summary[]
Master and apprentice.
Chosen by fate. Destined for conflict.
The planet of Mawan has been decimated by war and the resulting chaos. The population has taken refuge underground, while three greedy crimelords battle over food and fuel on the planet's surface. Only one group has a chance at securing peace—the Jedi.
But what if there's something even more sinister behind the chaos? What if the planet is really a trap, with many innocent lives held in the balance?
What if, in order to save Mawan, a Jedi must die?
Continuity[]
Gardulla The Hutt is said to be dead although she later appeared in the Star Wars: The Clone Wars series. The planet Koba and its native Kobans are misspelled as "Koda" and "Kodans" respectively.
