- "As it turns out, being a lord comes with a troublesome amount of very tiresome responsibilities. I'm often much busier than I'd like, and with matters I don't entirely care for."
"Then why did you accept the lordship? You could have remained a knight. Most of the Jedi did." - ―Hanrai, a Jedi lord, and Yuehiro, one of his Jedi apprentices
A Jedi lord was a Jedi knight who had been elevated in rank of lord within the Empire in the wake of the Sith rebellion. Jedi lords served the Emperor and ruled over a Jedi clan. It was believed by some citizens that a Jedi who was elevated to lordship served as an example of moral fortitude. Jedi pledged themselves to the service of a particular lord, Jedi or otherwise, and they were expected to die in the service of their lords.[1]
Retainers in the service of Jedi lords included Jedi knights and Jedi guardians. Lords legally adopted many Force-sensitive children who became their Jedi apprentices, with some taking a larger role than others as the master supervising their apprentices' training. Apprentices who were not deemed worthy of becoming a knight after graduation would not carry a lightsaber; they instead joined the lower caste of graduated apprentices known as guardians, serving alongside Jedi knights as retainers to their lords.[1]
