- "Chief Okko, I believe your ancestors were Jedi.... You can be Jedi."
"We are not Jedi. We are Ysanna. We do not need you to teach us anything. Ysanna magic is strong." - ―Luke Skywalker and Okko
A group of Jedi survivors[6] were the ancestors of the tribal Ysanna in the years following the destruction of the planet Ossus during the Cron Supernova in 3996 BBY.[3]
Unable to get off-world in time before the supernova irradiated the planet,[4] a few[3] powerful[6] Jedi families[3] took refuge in the vast subterranean[4] Crystal Caves beneath the Eocho Mountains. In the rush to collect as many Adegan crystals, the Jedi became trapped in the crystal caves by a collapse in part of the tunnel. The safety of the caves saved the group from[6] the extinction-level event.[3]
Abandoned for dead by the Galactic Republic,[2] the survivors banded together[6] and attempted to create their own society from the ashes[2] to survive the vast wasteland Ossus had become.[6] Over the centuries and the course of generations,[4] the Jedi's descendants lost the proper understanding of The Force and[2] forgot their Jedi heritage.[4] They were the progenitors of the Ysanna people that would come to roam the wastes of Ossus and protect its ruins.[6]
Behind the scenes[]
The Jedi survivors were first mentioned in the Star Wars Legends continuity in Dark Empire II 4, a comic written by Tom Veitch, illustrated by Cam Kennedy, and published by Dark Horse Comics[5] on March 21, 1995.[7]
