Jiroch-Kalok, also known as Kalok, was a world situated within the Mid Rim's Yushan sector. The planet was colonized by the hunting-oriented Tunroth species at some point after they had received galactic-level technology. Jiroch-Kalok, together with the Jiroch system's other worlds Jiroch-Reslia and Jiroch-Saloch, were referred to by spacers as the Triumvirate. A number of Duros also settled on the planet, leaving a strong influence on its architecture.
Description[]
Jiroch-Kalok,[5] also known as Kalok, was a terrestrial planet that occupied the fourth orbital position in the Jiroch system[3] within the Western Reaches portion of the Mid Rim's[1] Yushan sector.[2] The system was connected to the Dalisor system and the[1] Bruanii sector's[6] Quamar system via the Corellian Trade Spine hyperlane.[1]
History[]
Millennia prior to the Galactic Civil War, the Tunroth species, hailing from the Jiroch system planet Jiroch-Reslia, became a member of the Galactic Republic, in the process gaining access to galactic-level technology[3] and developing hyperdrive technology.[5] As a result, they colonized the Jiroch system planets Jiroch-Kalok and Jiroch-Saloch. Jiroch-Kalok, together with Jiroch-Saloch and Jiroch-Reslia, were often referred to by spacers as the Triumvirate as a dedication to the Assemblage of Three.[3] Consisting of the three highest-level Tunroth hunters, the Assemblage governed Tunroth society,[5] promoting Jiroch-Kalok and Jiroch-Saloch's simultaneous colonization.[3] Many members of the Duros species also settled on both worlds for a time and greatly influenced the local architecture.[4]
In 10 BBY,[5] during the event named the Reslian Purge, the expansionist Lortan Fanatics attacked the Jiroch system.[3] As the Tunroth were unable to repel them with their primitive technology, millions of Tunroth died,[5] and their population was reduced to four million. When the Galactic Empire intervened, the fanatics were thwarted and further attacks were halted. Following the massacre, reconstruction efforts were underway on the three Jiroch system worlds.[3]
Inhabitants[]
Colonizing Jiroch-Kalok, the Tunroth species developed a peaceful civilization centered around hunting communities,[3] hunters being the most respected in Tunroth society.[5] They developed sparse technology beyond simple animal power before joining the Republic and receiving the technology that paved the way for Jiroch-Kalok's colonization. However, even when they possessed such technology, few Tunroth traveled the galaxy, as many had returned to their home system to assist in the rebuilding effort. They lived in communes of between roughly fifty and three hundred individuals, a tracker leading each of them.[3]
Behind the scenes[]
Jiroch-Kalok was first mentioned in an entry written by C. Robert Carey for Galaxy Guide 12: Aliens — Enemies and Allies, a roleplaying supplement for Star Wars: The Roleplaying Game published by West End Games in 1995. Initially identified as Kalok,[3] Ultimate Alien Anthology, a 2003 supplement for Wizards of the Coast's Star Wars Roleplaying Game, provided the planet's full name.[5] The 2009 reference book The Essential Atlas placed the Jiroch system, and therefore Jiroch-Kalok, in grid square K-17.[1]
