K-2SO: "Why does she get a blaster, and I don't?"
Cassian: "What?"
Jyn: "I know how to use it."
Cassian: "That's what I'm afraid of."
―K-2SO, Cassian Andor, and Jyn Erso[2]

Jyn Erso's blaster was an A-180 blaster pistol[1] used by Jyn Erso. An extremely versatile weapon, it had multiple configurations for blaster pistol, blaster rifle or sniper rifle. Formerly owned by Rebel Cassian Andor, it became Jyn's weapon of choice when she stole it from Andor's bag and kept it up until her death during the Battle of Scarif.[2]

History[]

Acquisition[]

"Where did you get it?"
"I found it."
"I find that answer vague and unconvincing."
―Cassian Andor, Jyn Erso, and K-2SO[2]

Jyn Erso acquired her A-180 shortly before the Battle on Jedha after being recruited the Alliance to Restore the Republic to help make contact with Saw Gerrera.[2] Formerly owned by Captain Cassian Andor, Erso discreetly stole the weapon from the rebel's bag[3] while on Yavin 4, later called out on her theft by K-2SO. Andor demanded Erso return the blaster, but the latter argued that as she was trusting him, he would have to trust her. Andor allowed his companion to keep her sidearm, much to K-2SO's surprise (and objection).[2]

Jedha[]

"Give it to me."
"We're going to Jedha. That's a warzone."
"That's not the point."
―Cassian Andor and Jyn Erso[2]

Erso continued to carry her weapon on Jedha, using it during a conflict between local, Partisan rebels and Imperial forces in Tythoni Square. Instead of her A-180, she used an E-11 medium blaster rifle to shoot a KX-series security droid, which at first horrified her, believing it was K-2SO. Erso kept the blaster after the firefight resolved. During her meeting with Gerrera, the subsequent flight from the planet during the Destruction of Jedha City, the mission to Eadu, and brief return to Yavin 4, she wore it in a holster on her belt.[2]

Scarif[]

After sneaking into the Scarif vault, Erso drew the weapon to blow out the window before beginning her ascent to the Death Star plans. The A-180 was still in her holster when she escaped the vault. Erso drew it when making her way to the antenna controls atop the communications tower, and it was in her hand when the gantry was shot out by a TIE/sk x1. When she hoisted herself back to her feet to face Orson Krennic, it was back in her holster.[2]

Behind the scenes[]

Matthew Savage took part in the design of the concept art for the blaster and expansions.[5]
