Kalee was a planet[4] located in Wild Space[1] in a system[2] that was the homeworld of the Kaleesh species. Grievous, a male Kaleesh warlord, was from this world.[4]

History[]

The ravaging Yam'rii brutally overran many worlds in their sector, plundering their resources and enslaving their populations, and when the planet Kalee, homeworld of the reptilian Kaleesh species, became the center of the Yam'rii's attention, the results were horrifying: they conquered its people. The struggle between the Kaleesh and the Yam'rii devolved into an ongoing war.[5]

The Kaleesh warlord, Qymaen jai Sheelal,[6] later known as Grievous,[7] led his forces[2] in a ruthless all-war against the Yam'rii[8] with increased vigor and determination while on the offensive. In time, the Kaleesh forces successfully push the Yam'rii from their world.[5] Then, Grievous launched a series of devastating campaigns on the desolate planet Huk,[9] homeworld of the Yam'rii, and eventually, their enemies unexpectedly sought the Galactic Republic for assistance.[5] Then, the Republic[8] and the Jedi Order intervened in the disastrous conflict,[2] supporting the Yam'rii[8] against the invader. The Kaleesh were condemned, embargoes and fines were imposed, and hundreds of thousands of them died of starvation,[5] causing Grievous to pursue a personal vengeance against them.[8]

During a culinary tour of the galaxy that he took[10] between 34 ABY and 35 ABY,[11] the adventurous chef Strono "Cookie" Tuggs traveled to Kalee and unearthed the ingredients necessary to cook Karabbac Skewers. Tuggs would later include the recipe for the Skewers, as well as a retelling of his journey to Kalee, in his cookbook, The Ultimate Cookbook,[10] published in 35 ABY.[11]

  11. 11.0 11.1 Star Wars: The Ultimate Cookbook establishes that the publishing of the in-universe The Ultimate Cookbook and the culinary tour that preceded it occurred following the publishing of The Official Black Spire Outpost Cookbook and prior to the destruction of Kijimi. It also establishes that The Ultimate Cookbook was published following the Festival of the Ancestors that occurred during that time period. Star Wars: Galaxy's Edge: The Official Black Spire Outpost Cookbook further establishes that The Official Black Spire Outpost Cookbook was published concurrently with the First Order's search for the Resistance base on Batuu, which Star Wars: Timelines dates to 34 ABY. In addition, Timelines dates the Festival of the Ancestors and the destruction of Kijimi to 35 ABY, meaning the tour must have taken place between 34 ABY and 35 ABY and The Ultimate Cookbook must have been published in 35 ABY.
