- "Consistent reports place the insectoids' home on the planet Huk in the sector of the same name, which the Yam'rii largely conquered in search of strong enemies, resources to plunder and peoples to enslave – at least until they attacked the planet Kalee, from which the warlike Kaleesh species originated. As a reminder, General Grievous was a member of the Kaleesh and had already made a name for himself in the conflicts between his species and the Yam'rii before his (partial) career in the Confederacy. In any case, after many bloody battles, they were able to put the Yam'rii in serious trouble and even invade the planet Huk."
- ―"Species From A to Z"
The war between the reptilian Kaleesh species from the planet Kalee and the insectoid species Yam'rii from the planet Huk was a prolonged conflict in Wild Space of the galaxy.
Prelude[]
The low-tech reptilian Kaleesh were conquered by the devouring Yam'rii, a greedy insectoid species from the planet Huk[1] in the same system,[5] who mercilessly invaded numerous worlds in their sector, stripping them of their resources, selling their populations into slavery,[1] and searching for strong opponents.[6] When the Yam'rii turned their focus on the Kaleesh's homeworld Kalee, the results were horrific.[1]
Battle[]
The merciless reptilian Kaleesh and their technologically advanced adversary insectoid Yam'rii engaged in a devastating and ongoing war.[1] In time, Qymaen jai Sheelal[7] learned brutal and determined strategy,[8] battle tactics, and warfare during the war against the Yam'rii[3] and the ability to excite, motivate, and lead his fellow Kaleesh warriors in an explanatory way.[1] Sheelal would adopt the name "Grievous"[9] and gather[10] the best Kaleesh warriors,[1] the Izvoshra,[9] a group of courageous warriors, to act as his elite personal guard[11] and fight alongside them for years.[1] Grievous could always rely on[11] his Izvoshra,[9] who shared his victories and love of battle,[7] in his various destructive campaigns on the planet Huk.[11]
He then waged war against the Yam'rii[10] with ferocity and determination, and the Kaleesh forces[1] invaded Huk[6] and drove the Yam'rii off from their world, but the Yam'rii requested assistance from the Galactic Republic. The Republic[1] and the Jedi[5] sided with the Yam'rii[3] against the invader. The Kaleesh were condemned, embargoes and fines were enforced,[10] and hundreds of thousands were starved to death. After the Republic and the Jedi intervened the conflict,[1] Grievous developed a personal vendetta against them for their assistance to the Yam'rii.[3]
Aftermath[]
Eventually, Grievous became an agent for the InterGalactic Banking Clan, but his request to keep his loyal Izvoshra bodyguards was rejected,[9] and he was forced to command the IGBC droids. Grievous' demand for an intelligent personal guard led to the creation of the IG-100 MagnaGuard. After Grievous became one of IGBC's most valuable assets, Count Dooku and his Sith Master, Darth Sidious, became aware of his exploits and had important plans for him.[1] To have Grievous serve under them,[5] Dooku, Poggle the Lesser, and San Hill planned to destroy him in order to turn him into a cyborg.[12] Under Dooku's direction, Grievous' shuttle was sabotaged.[5]
The Kaleesh-Yam'rii war was mentioned in "Species From A to Z," a survival compendium sent out by Carson Teva during the New Republic Era.[6]

- ↑ Star Wars: Timelines dates the events of Darth Maul (2017) 3—which features IG-100 MagnaGuards—to 33 BBY. "The Separatists" establishes that Grievous requested the creation of an advanced droid—which became the IG-100 upon Dooku putting in the order for their creation—after joining the InterGalactic Banking Clan, which Grievous joined after a Jedi and Galactic Republic intervention into the Kaleesh-Yam'rii war. As the IG-100 must exist by 33 BBY, that intervention must have happened by that year.
