- "This baby belongs to them cloners. What you got here is a Kamino saberdart."
- ―Dexter Jettster examining one shown to him by Obi-Wan Kenobi
The Kamino saberdart was a type of toxic dart created by the Kaminoans of the planet Kamino. One of these darts was used by the bounty hunter Jango Fett to kill Zam Wesell, who had failed in her mission to assassinate the Senator Padmé Amidala and later captured by Jedi Knight Obi-Wan Kenobi and his Padawan Anakin Skywalker, to prevent her from telling said Jedi who hired her. The dart had little cuts on its side that made it instantly identifiable to Dexter Jettster when Obi-Wan brought it to him at his diner for identification, having been unable to find any information about it in the Jedi Archives.[1]
During the reign of the Galactic Empire, several accounts from Sienar Fleet Systems' Advanced Projects Laboratory on the Outer Rim planet Lothal indicate Grand Admiral Thrawn bringing a Kamino saberdart to the Laboratory. The Chiss Admiral sought to create a superior starfighter, the TIE Defender. According to the accounts, Thrawn used the saberdart to demonstrate the Defenders' proposed wing shapes and positions, the heightened speed and maneuverability TIE Defenders would have over other fighter craft, and the "unparalleled" visibility the design would provide TIE/D pilots.[2]
Behind the scenes[]
The shooting script for Attack of the Clones gives the name for the saberdart as a "Kamino kyberdart," a name that was later changed.[3]
In the non-canon 2022 video game LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga, Kamino saberdarts are represented by syringe LEGO pieces. As in the film, Wesell is hit by a dart outside the Outlander Club and collapses, but three more darts are then fired into a dart board being carried out of the club by two patrons. All three strike the bullseye. Wesell then sits up and pulls the dart from her neck to hand to Kenobi before collapsing again and falling unconscious.[4]
Kenobi then takes the dart to Jettster as in the film, but after Jettster passes the dart back to Kenobi, the Jedi fumbles it and accidentally launches it into the rear of a nearby customer. The shocked customer tosses their food into the air, causing it to land on their head, and then collapses. As other patrons and the waitress Wanda gather round the unconscious patron to investigate, Kenobi quickly sneaks out the diner to avoid suspicion.[4]
