- "
That is one ugly bug." - ―Clone Commander Cody, upon seeing a statue of Queen Karina
Karina the Great was the Geonosian Queen of Stalgasin hive, and by extension, Geonosis during the Clone Wars. She also commanded a hive of undead Geonosian warriors through the use of brain worms.
Biography[]
- "Watch as my child enters your Jedi friend."
- ―Karina the Great
Unlike most members of her species, she had six limbs instead of four, and a huge egg-laying organ, which produced an egg roughly once every eight seconds. She commanded a hive of undead Geonosian warriors, through use of brain worms, from her lair under the Progate Temple.
She was originally thought to be only a myth, until Archduke Poggle the Lesser hid in the temple with her, unaware that he was being followed by Jedi Master Luminara Unduli and the clone trooper Buzz. The Jedi and the clone entered Karina's temple, but were quickly attacked by the undead Geonosians. Buzz was killed and Unduli was taken prisoner. When Jedi Knight Anakin Skywalker and Jedi Master Obi-Wan Kenobi tracked Luminara down to Karina herself, Obi-Wan wanted to negotiate with her and find out how the brain worms worked. However, Queen Karina was presumably killed by the clone troopers who had shot down the structure of the temple while saving the three Jedi, allowing it to topple over her and trap her under the rubble.
Behind the scenes[]
Karina was voiced by Dee Bradley Baker, who also voices all of the clone troopers in the Star Wars: The Clone Wars television series.[3]
"Legacy of Terror" is notable for containing several similarities to the 1986 movie Aliens: Just like the alien queen from the science fiction film, Karina the Great is the leader of a hive of aliens and lays eggs, and her giant egg sac and the fan-shaped growth on top of her head look, strikingly similar to the queen from the movie.
