- "After making the pick up, you are to deliver the supplies to the site of the unfinished Karinda Outpost in the Karinda System."
- ―The commander of the Tancon Rebel Alliance base, to a team of Rebel agents
Karinda was an arid, dusty Outer Rim Territories planet that lay in the Wazta sector. During the Galactic Civil War, the Galactic Empire maintained a small garrison there, while the Rebel Alliance also constructed a hidden listening outpost on the planet. At one point, the Rebel light freighter Arion Star delivered supplies to the outpost, with the starship's crew experiencing in the process both a rough landing on Karinda and pursuit by an Imperial force from the garrison.
Description[]
Karinda was a terrestrial planet located in the Karinda system[2] of the Outer Rim Territories' Wazta sector.[1] It was situated at a distance of two days' travel with a starship equipped with a Class 1 hyperdrive from Greyman's Planet in the Soarin system. Karinda was an arid world that appeared predominantly red-brown in color when viewed from space, although it also had some small seas and lakes. Its surface featured canyons and a dusty soil with no vegetation.[2]
History[]
Both Karinda and Greyman's Planet were situated in the Wazta sector.
During the Galactic Civil War between the Galactic Empire and the Rebel Alliance, the Empire maintained a garrison on Karinda. The Alliance was also constructing a listening outpost, the Karinda Outpost, on the planet for intercepting Imperial Outer Rim communications.[2] At some point between 0 ABY and 3 ABY,[4] the Alliance formulated a plan for a mission to deliver supplies from Da'Harrin Spaceport on Greyman's Planet to the Karinda Outpost. At the Alliance base on[2] the Koradin sector[5] planet Tancon, the coordinates for Karinda were loaded in the navigation computer of the light freighter Arion Star, and afterward the base's commander briefed a team of agents on the mission.[2]
After the Rebel team eventually retrieved the supplies from Greyman's Planet—in the process engaging in combat an Imperial patrol—it traveled to Karinda. However, when the Arion Star began its descent toward the Karinda Outpost, its guidance system control board malfunctioned, leading to the freighter performing a rough landing in a valley an hour's travel away from the base.[2]
On Karinda, the Rebel agents were pursued by Imperial scout troopers (a scout trooper pictured).
There, since the Rebels did not know the exact location of the outpost, they waited for the arrival of an Ultra-Light Assault Vehicle speeder and a repulsorlift skiff that would bring them to the facility. The Rebels then loaded the supplies on the skiff, but before they could begin their trip, they were discovered in the valley by speeder bike–riding scout troopers of the Imperial garrison, which had been notified of the Rebels' arrival after the Empire had traced them there from Greyman's Planet. A pursuit through the valley and the adjoining canyon ensued, with an Imperial hoverscout later also joining the chase. Ultimately, the Rebel team was able to prevail over the Imperial force and deliver the supplies to the Karinda Outpost.[2]
Locations[]
Karinda was the site of a Galactic Empire garrison that—due to the world's remote location in the Outer Rim making it hardly worth Imperial attention—was small. The Rebel Alliance Karinda Outpost was constructed in a large cave that lay at the end of a canyon which began near a large rocky hill. At a distance of an hour's travel with a speeder from the outpost was situated a small rocky valley that was connected via a narrow canyon to a large, open dusty plain.[2]
Behind the scenes[]
Karinda appeared in the Star Wars: The Roleplaying Game adventure "Milk Run," which was written by Sterling Hershey[2] and was run by the RPGA Network at the 1991 Gen Con gaming convention.[6] The 2009 reference book The Essential Atlas placed the Karinda system, and therefore the planet itself, in grid square J-18.[3]
