The Kerane Valley was a valley on the planet Hoth. In 3 ABY, the All Terrain Armored Transports of the Galactic Empire's Blizzard Force passed through the valley on their route to attack Echo Base, headquarters of the Alliance to Restore the Republic.

Description[edit | edit source]

The Kerane Valley was a valley on the ice-covered planet Hoth that sat to the north-west of the Moorsh Moraine and the north-east of the North Ridge.[1]

History[edit | edit source]

The walkers of Blizzard Force passed through Kerane Valley to attack Echo Base.

In 3 ABY,[2] the All Terrain Armored Transports of the Imperial Blizzard Force were deployed onto the Moorsh Moraine in order to attack Echo Base, the headquarters of the Alliance to Restore the Republic, which was located in the Clabburn Range to the far south.[1]

The walkers then moved into the south end of the valley, with the crew of the walker Blizzard 4 attempting a more direct and treacherous route into the valley in order to impress Sith Lord Darth Vader. The walkers Blizzard 1 and Blizzard 2 then proceeded to take a safer westerly route through the valley in order to reach the North Ridge and ascend toward the base. A group led by Blizzard 4 initially attempted to ascend an eastern ice flow, but after losing three walkers, Blizzard 4 and the rest of the group retreated to the westerly route as well. Ultimately, the remaining walkers successfully ascended the North Ridge and engaged with the Alliance Military on the Nev Ice Flow.[1]

Behind the scenes[edit | edit source]

Kerane Valley was first mentioned in the new Star Wars canon in the 2016 reference book Star Wars: Complete Locations, in a section written by James Luceno and illustrated by Richard Chasemore and Hans Jenssen.[1] The location was originally introduced in the Star Wars Legends continuity via the 2004 reference book Inside the Worlds of Star Wars Trilogy, which was also written by Luceno, with illustrations by Chasemore and Jenssen.[3]
