"Most impressive…you made it deep into the most fortified stronghold in the sector. Still, you'll find…there are always more guards."
―Lord Khamdek, to T'onga[3]

Lord Khamdek was a human male crime lord who led the Mourner's Wail Syndicate during the Imperial Era. He was the father of Khamus, the heir to the syndicate, who was killed by the Nautolan bounty hunter Nakano Lash during a mission. In 3 ABY, another bounty hunter named T'onga infiltrated the Mourner's Wail's fortress in order to find information on Lash, who resurfaced under mysterious circumstances. Khamdek caught T'onga, believing she was an assassin, but the bounty hunter explained her situation, asking for all of the syndicate's reported sightings of Lash and pledging to kill the Nautolan for him.

Biography[]

Khamus's murder[]

"Our spies tell us she used a transmitter to contact the Unbroken Clan. Further proof they all conspired together to murder my son."
―Khamdek, to T'onga[3]
Khamus death

Khamdek's son, Khamus, was murdered by Nakano Lash.

Lord Khamdek led the Mourner's Wail Syndicate during the Imperial Era. The syndicate, which was based at the Fortress of the Mourner's Wail on the terrestrial world Dotharian, had been at war for a century with a rival group named the Unbroken Clan.[3] Around 10 BBY,[5] Khamus, Khamdek's son and the only heir to the syndicate, hired a five bounty hunters to attack the Unbroken Clan, which at that time had a truce with the Mourner's Wail Syndicate, at their sanctuary on[6] the planet[7] Corellia. However, one of the bounty hunters, the Nautolan Nakano Lash, betrayed and killed Khamus, compromising the mission.[6]

Lash, who now had a bounty on her, went into hiding and the Unbroken Clan went to war with the Mourner's Wail Syndicate after. Khamdek felt that Khamus's loss was more damaging than the syndicate's century long war with the Unbroken Clan and suspected the rival organization of working with Lash.[3] In 3 ABY,[8] Lash was sighted near[3] the planet[9] Kessel, which prompted many bounty hunters to go searching for her. Khamdek's spies then informed him that Lash had made contact with the Unbroken Clan, increasing his suspicions that the two parties had conspired to kill Khamus.[3]

T'onga's pledge[]

"Are you an assassin sent to kill me?"
"Thank you for your audience lord Khamdek. I'm here about… Nakano Lash. I'm here to pledge to kill her for you. To kill her for both of us."
―Khamdek and T'onga[3]
Mourners Wail

Khamdek and his guards confront T'onga.

Around a week after Lash's sighting, the bounty hunter T'onga infiltrated the Fortress of the Mourner's Wail, killing a number of guards and distracting others. Khamdek, though, confronted her, backed by more guards. Impressed that she had made it deep into the fortress, he allowed her a few moments to live, asking whether she was an assassin there to kill him. T'onga claimed she was there about Lash, pledging to kill the Nautolan for Khamdek. Khamdek expressed his disgust of hearing Lash's name and voiced the damage she had done to him by killing Khamus.[3]

Khamdek asked T'onga why she was any different to the many bounty hunters hunting for Lash. T'onga told him she wanted information on Lash to find out why the Nautolan had resurfaced. Khamdek brought up Lash's contact with the Unbroken Clan, suggesting that they were working together to T'onga. She then requested his files of reported sightings of Lash, promising to find Lash and avenge Khamus and her brother T'ongor, who she believed Lash had killed too.[3]

Crimson Dawn returns[]

When Crimson Dawn announced the auction for Han Solo and demanded fealty from the other criminal syndicates, Khamdek refused. This prompted the Crimson Dawn to attack the clan with the intention of destroying it completely. Lord Khamdek lost most of his forces, surviving only thanks to the timely intervention of T'onga, her wife Losha and their pet Nexu. T'onga proceeded to reveal the existence of Khamus's daughter Cadeliah, explaining that Cadeliah was the heir to both the Unbroken Clan and Mourner's Wail Syndicates, as well as the reason that Nakano Lash had killed Khamus (Khamus had been planning to kill his lover and their unborn child.) While saddened to know that his son had tried to kill his pregnant lover, he was heartened by the realization that he had a Granddaughter and asked them to bring Cadeliah home. He also advised the duo to triple their crew, saying they needed it to face Crimson Dawn.[10]

Demise[]

In an act that forever changed the criminal underworld,[11] Khamdek would be assassinated by the bounty hunter Dengar.[2]

Personality and traits[]

"She took my son—the only heir to the Mourner's Wail—away from me. With a single shot, she did more damage than the Unbroken Clan have in a century of war."
―Khamdek reflects on Khamus's death[3]

Khamdek was a human male with blond hair and light skin. After Nakano Lash killed his son Khamus, he felt the loss more than the damage done by the Unbroken Clan in a century long war. Lash's name came to disgust Khamdek upon being said, and he further suspected that she had conspired with the Unbroken Clan, further believing this when learning that the two parties had made contact.[3] When he learned the actual circumstances of what had happened, he was saddened that his son believed he would murder him just for having a child with his rival's daughter, saying that he would have understood.[10]

He had a strong sense of pride, refusing to bow to Crimson Dawn despite the overwhelming odds arrayed against him saying that he bowed to no one.[10]

Equipment[]

Khamdek wore golden colored armor with black under clothing and a purple cape.[3]
