Kheilwar wasps were a type of exotic creature with fatal stings.[1] In 34 ABY,[2] the cargo vessel Sketter's Quarrel was discovered dead in space after its crew were stung to death by kheilwar wasps that had escaped from a damaged shipping container on board the vessel.[1]

The Sketter's Quarrel had been carrying a range of creatures to deliver to Regent Solculvis of the Mol'leaj system, who maintained a collection of exotics. Members of the Sector Rangers law enforcement agency investigated the vessel, and information from their file on the case was included in Scum and Villainy: Case Files on the Galaxy's Most Notorious, a book authored by Police Commissioner Exantor Divo[1] and published in 34 ABY.[3]

Behind the scenes[]

Kheilwar wasps were first mentioned in the current Star Wars canon in the 2018 reference book Star Wars: Scum and Villainy: Case Files on the Galaxy's Most Notorious, which was written by Pablo Hidalgo.[1] Kheilwars originated in the Star Wars Legends continuity, where they first appeared in the short story "Murder in Slushtime," which was written by Barbara Hambly and published in Star Wars Adventure Journal 14 in 1997.[4]

  2. Star Wars: Scum and Villainy: Case Files on the Galaxy's Most Notorious dates the discovery of the Sketter's Quarrel to 8011 (C.R.C. date) and gives 7977 (C.R.C. date) as the year that the secret mission to Tatooine took place. As Star Wars: Galactic Atlas dates the mission to Tatooine to 0 BBY, the discovery of the Sketter's Quarrel must therefore take place in 34 ABY.
  3. The latest entries chronologically in Star Wars: Scum and Villainy: Case Files on the Galaxy's Most Notorious are dated to 8011 (C.R.C. date) and gives 7980 (C.R.C. date) as the year that the carbon-freezing of Han Solo, which Star Wars: Timelines dates to 3 ABY. Therefore, 8011 C.R.C. must have been around 34 ABY. Scum and Villainy also mentions Hosnian Prime as still being capital of the New Republic, meaning the in-universe Scum and Villainy: Case Files on the Galaxy's Most Notorious must have been published prior to the destruction of the planet, which Star Wars: Timelines dates to 34 ABY. As the publishing must have occurred between the time of the latest entries and the destruction of Hosnian Prime, it therefore also took place around 34 ABY.
