Kiirium was an armor material used to shield Starships, Heavy weapons, Infantry armor and Xim's War-Robots, Around 25,000 BBY the material was difficult to produce and among the strongest types of armor known, making it a valuable war material. The powerful warlord Xim the Despot, obtained vast quantities of the metal for his growing war machine, and loaded the treasure ship Queen of Ranroon with kiirium, mytag crystals, and beam tubes to hoard in his vaults on Dellalt. At that time, these materials represented the pinnacle of military technology and were extremely valuable.
Although the ship successfully delivered its load, legends arose that it vanished with the treasure aboard, inspiring generations of treasure hunters to search for the lost ship and its reputed wealth.
By the end of the Galactic Republic, kiirium was considered antiquated but serviceable, and ingots of the material were far easier to create.
In 1BBY, Han Solo was among an expedition that discovered the fabled treasure of Xim consisted of this stockpile of war supplies, now worthless due to advances in technology.
