It was an Imperial sector capital, and home to the Imperial Enclave, an enormous facility that supported the Empire's naval operations in that sector of the Galaxy.
During the Galactic Civil War, Rogue Squadron launched an assault on the Enclave's spaceports, barracks, and long range sensor outpost, in an attempt to hamper Imperial operations in the area. The mission produced mixed results. The mission objectives were completed successfully, but at high cost - Wedge Antilles was shot down in one of the narrow canyons on the planet's surface. Thankfully, he survived the crash, but the Empire captured him, taking him to a prisoner camp on the Spice planet of Kessel, where he was scheduled to be terminated.
