"Not specifically, we of the Illumine travel the Chaos teaching others the Kilji way of order and enlightenment."
"A noble undertaking."
―Nakirre and Mitth'raw'nuruodo[1]

The Kilji Illumine and its Illumine Kilhorde traveled across the Chaos to spread their religious beliefs while conquering impoverished and weak-minded nations. The conquests began after the creation of the Kilhorde which was created to spread the Kiljis' religious beliefs, and ended when the Kilhorde was destroyed by the Paataatus Hiveborn and Senior Captain Thrawn. The conflict was part of a series of conquests in the Unknown Regions at the behest of Jixtus of the Grysk Hegemony. Jixtus, a Grysk, wished for the Kilji to conquer nations to the Southeast of the Chiss Ascendancy to close those nations off to Chiss refugees who would survive a civil war he hoped to incite among the Chiss.

At first the conquests were successful, with impoverished nations surrendering to the Kilji invaders and submitting to the Kilji path. However, the nations Southeast of the Chiss Ascendancy were located to the Northwest of the Paataatus' territory. As such, the Paataatus Hiveborn dispatched the Paataatus military to neutralize the Kilhorde. The Paataatus forces annihilated the Illumine Kilhorde and liberated the nations they had conquered, shortly before Senior Captain Thrawn's last stand against the forces of Jixtus's fleet.[1]

Around 18 BBY,[2] Jixtus and Generalirius Nakirre entered an alliance, Nakirre would provide transport to Jixtus while Jixtus would provide a guide in the Illumine's conquests of enlightenment.[1]

The conflict[]

Jixtus of the Grysk Hegemony sent Generalirius Nakirre's Kilhorde against various impoverished nations on the southeast of the Chiss Ascendancy, and therefore, in the northwest of the Paataatus Hiveborn. The Paatatus deemed the Kilhorde's operations near their borders unacceptable and contacted Senior Captain Mitth'raw'nuruodo, who had saved the Prince Militaire and the Hiveborn from control of Nikardun forces in a skirmish against Nikardun remnants.[1]

Thrawn provided the Prince Militaire information gathered from the Hammer which had been captured by Chiss forces. The information provided the Paataatus information regarding the design and combat doctrine weaknesses of the Kilhorde. The Paataatus began to attack the Kilhorde, and liberated worlds that had been captured by the former that joined the Paataatus' cause, the Kilhorde was ultimately destroyed and all the worlds conquered by it were freed.[1]

During Senior Captain Thrawn's last stand, Thrawn informed Generalirius Nakirre of the Kilhorde's destruction, which resulted in Jixtus killing Nakirre and the end of the Grysk-Kilji alliance.[1]

Behind the scenes[]

The Kilji conquests were first mentioned in the 2021 novel Thrawn Ascendancy: Lesser Evil, the final volume of the Star Wars: The Ascendancy Trilogy written by Timothy Zahn.[1]

  2. 2.0 2.1 The events of Thrawn: Alliances set during the Clone Wars take place after Ahsoka Tano had left the Jedi Order. Star Wars: Galactic Atlas dates both the end of the Clone Wars and Tano's departure from the Order to 19 BBY. As the main events of Thrawn Ascendancy: Chaos Rising take place concurrently with the Clone Wars events of Alliances, Chaos Rising must be set in 19 BBY. Furthermore, during the main events of Thrawn Ascendancy: Lesser Evil, it is established that the attack on Csilla, which is depicted as part of the main events of Chaos Rising, took place "last year." Therefore, the main events of Lesser Evil must be set around 18 BBY.
