"Controller, an unauthorized droid has just entered the ISB base on Killun 71."
3-9, reporting to Controller LT-319 — (audio) Listen (file info)[2]

Killun 71 was a moon located in the Outer Rim Territories that was occupied by the Galactic Empire in the years leading up to the Galactic Civil War. Its jagged, rocky surface made it difficult to colonize, though the Empire operated an outpost known as Killun Station on one of the rocky protrusions. In an attempt to acquire codes relevant to rebel operations on the planet Lothal, the rebel cell known as Phoenix Squadron infiltrated the outpost, stealing sensitive information from the Empire.

Description[]

Killun 71 was a moon[2] located within the Outer Rim Territories, situated in grid square T-6 on the Standard Galactic Grid along a hyperspace route, which connected to[1] the planet[4] Mon Cala and astronomical object Florn.[1] Located near a larger, white celestial body,[2] the moon had a green appearance from space; this was due to an omnipresent layer of mist in its atmosphere. Its terrain was composed of large, rocky protrusions and jagged landmasses that made colonization difficult.[3]

History[]

KillunStation

The Imperial base Killun Station sat on one of the moon's jagged landmasses prior to the Galactic Civil War.

Despite the moon's large, jagged rocks, the Galactic Empire maintained an outpost on Killun 71 known as Killun Station. Established and operated by the Imperial Security Bureau,[3] Killun Station contained sensitive data and orbital clearance codes for the planet Lothal, making the base a prime target for the rebel cell known as Phoenix Squadron, which was planning an upcoming attack on Lothal.[2]

In 2 BBY,[5] Phoenix Squadron agents Wedge Antilles and the droids C1-10P and AP-5 infiltrated Killun Station to recover the Lothal codes. Although Chopper was compromised by Imperial Information Office[2] Controller LT-319,[6] the two droids were ultimately successful in their mission.[2]

One of Killun 71's jagged landmasses was home to Killun Station, an outpost operated by humans and droids[2] of the Imperial Security Bureau. Due to the sensitive nature of the data stored in the base, security was especially tight. Stormtroopers were stationed at every entrance, and the base was equipped with walkthrough identification scanners.[7]

Killun 71 made its first appearance in "Double Agent Droid,"[2] the nineteenth episode in the third season of the Disney XD animation television series Star Wars Rebels. The episode aired on March 11, 2017.[8] "Killun 71" is likely a reference to Star Wars Rebels art director Kilian Plunkett,[2] who was born in 1971.[9] According to series creator Dave Filoni, the environment design used for the landscape of Killun 71 was adapted from a concept originally made for an unproduced episode of the television series Star Wars: The Clone Wars, in which the clones attempted to capture[10] Sith Lord[11] Dooku on their own.[10]

  5. According to Star Wars: On the Front Lines, the events of the Star Wars Rebels episode "Secret Cargo" take place in 2 BBY. Additionally, Star Wars: Absolutely Everything You Need to Know, Updated and Expanded states that the events of the episode "Twin Suns" take place thirty years after the events of Star Wars: Episode I The Phantom Menace, which Star Wars: Galactic Atlas dates to 32 BBY, thereby placing "Twin Suns" in 2 BBY as well. Given that the events of the episode "Double Agent Droid" take place between those two episodes, they must also occur in 2 BBY.
