The Kimogila was a huge reptilian creature, quite similar to the krayt dragon of Tatooine, that was native to the planet Lok.

Kimogilas were generally about the same size as krayt dragons.[1] Because of the sulfur pools and rivers present on Lok, the creature had evolved to boast a layer of extremely resilient scales, capable of withstanding all but the strongest anti-personnel weapons. They were also known to have one of the most toxic venom in the galaxy, which could immobilize its prey in seconds.[3]

They were usually known to hunt the roaming herds of Snorbals. With no known predators, however, it is possible that these creatures turned cannibalistic during times when food was short. They were hard to find creatures, but they usually traveled in small family packs ranging from two to three, and could sometimes become extremely territorial.[source?]

The kimogilas were notoriously difficult to kill,[3] its ferocious nature led big-game hunters to try to kill one for sport.[2] Their scales were known to be very useful in the construction of armor, especially Reinforced Insulated Sheath armor.[6]

The skeleton of a particularly massive kimogila was known as one of the most notable point of interests of the planet Lok during the Galactic Civil War.[7] There was also a story that a group of settlers were tricked into buying land not far from the stronghold of Nym, that was infested with Kimogilas. Soon after they settled the land, the Kimogilas destroyed the entire town, earning it the name of Kimogila Town to those who knew of it. Offworlders were sometimes lured by thieves posing as tourist guides, offering the location of a supposedly beautiful hidden oasis for credits, only to be left to their fate as prey to packs of the large creatures.[4]

After the Battle of Yavin, scientists, hunters and explorers discovered that aged kimogilas had begun to change their migratory patterns on Lok due to shortening of food supplies. Meanwhile, the existence of dwarf kimogilas was reported on the planet. The origin of these smaller kimogilas was unknown but some pretended that they were the result of bioengineer experiments, what had been denied by the Galactic Empire.[8]

Around the same time, an organization dedicated to the protection of the endangered species named Rescue Our Lesser Brothers claimed it was responsible for helping a group of people on Lok to raise Kimogilas.[9]

In 1 ABY,[10] a spacer fought and killed three enraged kimogilas on Lok as part of his trials to become a Jedi Knight.[11]

The M12-L Kimogila heavy fighter was named after the creature, as well as the Kimogila Fanatics.[12]

Kimogilas appeared in the 2003 video game Star Wars Galaxies, a massively multiplayer online roleplaying game developed by Sony Online Entertainment and published by LucasArts,[1] prior to its closure on December 15, 2011.[13]

The only precise time indication in the game was given by the character Ruwan Tokai, who referenced the destruction of the Death Star at the Battle of Yavin as occurring one year earlier, placing the game sometime around 1 ABY. Later, multiple elements confirmed the placement of the game storyline in 1 ABY. First, The Essential Reader's Companion established that the tie-in novel Star Wars Galaxies: The Ruins of Dantooine took place in 1 ABY. Furthermore, the game expansion Star Wars Galaxies: Rage of the Wookiees was set during the Blockade of Kashyyyk, one year after the Battle of Yavin according to The Star Wars Holiday Special. Additionally, the main scenario of The Nightsister's Revenge from the Star Wars Galaxies Trading Card Game was set over a year before the Battle of Hoth (3 ABY), so around 1.5 ABY. Finally, the reference book Strongholds of Resistance placed the events of Star Wars Galaxies's Chapter 9: "The Fury of Exar Kun" one year after the Battle of Yavin. Of note, Galaxies's Chapter 11: "The Battle of Echo Base" introduced the Battle of Hoth in the game. However, the developers were quite clear that this was only intended to be a completely isolated "Star Wars Moment" without any effect on continuity for the rest of the game.
