- ―Krepauk grants the knuckles of the katarn to a spacer
The knuckles of the katarn was a Wookiee melee weapon made from the claws of a katarn, a savage predator from the planet Kashyyyk. Custom-made by Krepauk—the Huntmaster of the Rryatt Trail on Kashyyyk—the knuckles of the katarn was once given to a spacer who had killed a katarn during a hunt shortly after the Battle of Yavin.
The knuckles of the katarn was a Wookiee melee weapon fashioned out of the claws of a katarn, one of the deadliest predators on the Wookiee homeworld of Kashyyyk. The weapon's handle had a claw at each end, while four additional claws extended from the forward end. The knuckles of the katarn had a range of four meters and could be wielded with just one hand.
The knuckles of the katarn was a custom-made weapon built by the Wookiee Krepauk, the Huntmaster of the Rryatt Trail on Kashyyyk during the Galactic Civil War. As Huntmaster, it was Krepauk's job to test the hunting skills and honor of the travelers of the trail by giving them a series of hunts. If the travelers proved themselves to be worthy, Krepauk would reward them with different items.
Shortly after the Battle of Yavin, Krepauk tasked a passing spacer with several hunts that the spacer managed to complete, including killing a katarn in the Shadowlands. Impressed by the hunter's prowess, Krepauk gave the spacer a large amount of credits and a pair of hunting mounts. Krepauk also crafted the knuckles of the katarn for the spacer from the remains of the same katarn that the spacer had slain.
Behind the scenes
The knuckles of the katarn appeared in the 2005 Star Wars Galaxies expansion pack Rage of the Wookiees from LucasArts and Sony Online Entertainment. In the game, the player could receive the knuckles of the katarn for completing Krepauk's series of quests, known as the "Rryatt Trail Trials." Although the player could choose not to complete Krepauk's quests, this article assumes 100 percent game completion. The weapon dealt additional "cold" damage when used.
