"I always wanted to design buildings, but never had the motivation to take the steps necessary to actually become an architect. Instead, I do paintings of buildings. Not quite the same thing, but I find it satisfying."
―Kolka Zteht, to a spacer[1]

Kolka Zteht was a female Rodian artist who lived during the time of the Galactic Civil War. In 1 ABY, Zteht resided in the city of Mos Entha on the Outer Rim world of Tatooine where she created two works of art, titled Blue Leaf Temple and Residential House. Both of these paintings were subsequently featured in the Museum of Tatooine by curator Lilas Dinhint.

A female Rodian by the name of Kolka Zteht lived during the time of the Galactic Civil War, a major conflict between the Galactic Empire and the Alliance to Restore the Republic. She originally had aspirations of becoming an architect, but she believed that she lacked the motivation to actually learn how to be one. Instead, she settled on becoming an artist who simply created paintings of buildings, a pastime she found to be satisfying.[1] In 1 ABY,[2] Zteht set up shop near the theater in Mos Entha, a city on the Outer Rim Territories planet of Tatooine. While there, she created two paintings, one simply titled Residential House, which depicted a small home, and another titled Blue Leaf Temple, which depicted the Temple of the Blueleaf Cluster on Yavin 4.[1]

Meanwhile, in Tatooine's Imperial capital of Bestine, curator Lilas Dinhint oversaw the Museum of Tatooine,[1] which served as the planet's only museum.[3] Dinhint sought to enhance the museum's collection by offering visitors something new. To that end, the museum selected a small number of artists who would be approached for an opportunity to have their art featured in Bestine. Kolka Zteht was one of the artists to be considered, along with Vanvi Hotne, Giaal Itotr, Klepa Laeel, Kahfr Oladi, and Boulo Siesi. In order to have her paintings featured in Bestine, however, Zteht required enough votes to win over her fellow artists. Lilas Dinhint held a Bestine Museum art competition every thirty days, allowing for a period of fifteen days in between in which individuals could vote for their favorite artist.[1]

This section of the article assumes 100% game completion of Star Wars Galaxies: An Empire Divided. Any alternate stories may be noted in the "Behind the scenes" section. The events in this section may or may not have been confirmed as canon within the Star Wars Legends continuity.

During the course of her artistry career, Zteht was approached by a number of spacers, many of whom voted for her as their artist of choice. Zteht won the art competitions at various times, allowing her the opportunity to display her paintings in Bestine's museum for a period of thirty days. During the time her paintings were displayed, the corrupt curator Dinhint offered schematics of the artworks in exchange for a "modest donation" of 48,000 credits. This allowed the opportunity for architecturally-inclined furniture makers and traders to mass-produce copies of Zteht's paintings so that they could be purchased, collected, or displayed for personal use.[1]

"Hello Friend. [sic] Slow down a bit and enjoy the day."
―Kolka Zteht to a passerby[1]

Kolka Zteht had blue skin, auburn hair, and purple-colored eyes. Although she was a capable artist, Zteht lacked the motivation to pursue her original goal of becoming an architect. However, she found the act of simply painting buildings to be enough of a satisfying pursuit. Zteht had a friendly demeanor, and leisurely outlook on life, at times encouraging passersby to slow down and enjoy the day, or to sit down with her and have a drink. Zteht strove to be humble, but she had never felt prouder than when her artwork was put up for display in Bestine.[1]

"Hello. Did you know I have a painting in the Bestine Museum? It's true. I'm trying to be humble, but I've never been so proud of myself."
"You should be proud."
"Thank you. I encourage you to go see my painting. I did mention that it's in the Bestine Museum, yes?
"
―Kola Zteht and a passerby[1]

During her time as an artist in Mos Entha, Zteht wore a blue frock with a white belt, and a pair of blue women's shoes. In creating her paintings, Zteht used a couple art palettes. She also had among her personal effects a brown satchel.[1]

Behind the scenes[]

Kolka Zteht was a non-player character in the 2003 video game Star Wars Galaxies: An Empire Divided, a massively multiplayer online role-playing game developed by Sony Online Entertainment and published by LucasArts, prior to its closure on December 15, 2011.[1][4] She was added to the game on February 11, 2004 as part of Publish 6 The Imperial Crackdown. The update featured a new Bestine Museum event, in which players could vote for a number of NPC artists in order to have one of their paintings put up for display in the museum.[5][1] Kolka Zteht was one of these artists, and players who chose to vote for her were required to first converse with her in Mos Entha. If Zteht got the most votes, one of her paintings, either Residential House or Blue Leaf Temple, would be displayed for about a one month period, and players could purchase schematics of the paintings during a two week period for a fee of 48,000 credits. The winning artist depended on the player's input, however as the competitions were held monthly, this article assumes 100% game completion, and that Kolka Zteht won the right to display both of her paintings on at least several occasions.[1]

  2. According to its opening crawl, Star Wars Galaxies was set sometime after Star Wars: Episode IV A New Hope. The only precise time indication in the game was given by the character Ruwan Tokai, who referenced the destruction of the Death Star at the Battle of Yavin as occurring one year earlier, placing the game sometime around 1 ABY. Later, multiple elements confirmed the placement of the game storyline in 1 ABY. First, The Essential Reader's Companion established that the tie-in novel Star Wars Galaxies: The Ruins of Dantooine took place in 1 ABY. Furthermore, the game expansion Star Wars Galaxies: Rage of the Wookiees was set during the Blockade of Kashyyyk, one year after the Battle of Yavin according to The Star Wars Holiday Special. Additionally, the main scenario of The Nightsister's Revenge from the Star Wars Galaxies Trading Card Game was set over a year before the Battle of Hoth (3 ABY), so around 1.5 ABY. Finally, the reference book Strongholds of Resistance placed the events of Star Wars Galaxies's Chapter 9: "The Fury of Exar Kun" one year after the Battle of Yavin. Of note, Galaxies's Chapter 11: "The Battle of Echo Base" introduced the Battle of Hoth in the game. However, the developers were quite clear that this was only intended to be a completely isolated "Star Wars Moment" without any effect on continuity for the rest of the game.
