- "I suggest you relax and have a good time here in Kor Vella."
- ―Gilker Budz
Kor Vella was a popular city on Corellia.
Description[]
- "Welcome to Kor Vella, home to some of the most cutting edge scientific research in the entire galaxy."
- ―Deel Draav
Kor Vella was located atop the Kor Vella mesa, on the planet Corellia. Despite its transformation into a thriving economic hub, the city had maintained much of its rustic charm. Many of the settlement's original buildings still stood and the residents maintained historic areas throughout the city. Kor Vella also lacked the huge skyscrapers that dominated the skylines of most other Corellian cities.[1] The city was known for its excellent scientific research.[2]
History[]
- "Someone is smuggling a spice known as ryll into Kor Vella. Ryll is a highly addictive spice. We need to find the source of the spice and break up their smuggling operation."
- ―Lieutenant Cope, to a spacer
In Corellia's more primitive times, long before the advent of hyperspace travel, intrepid explorers made their reputation by successfully scaling the Kor Vella mesa. The terrain was treacherous, and the area around the mesa boasted numerous predatory creatures. Those Corellians who did manage to reach the mesa, however, found that the bleak, weather-beaten landscape actually offered great solitude. Kor Vella mesa became a site for introspection and meditation, where Corellians could escape the trials of daily life for a few hours of reflection.[1]

Kor Vella during the time of the Galactic Civil War
Nearly ten thousand years before the Battle of Yavin, a small religious sect established a monastery on Kor Vella mesa. The religious retreat shunned metropolitan values and emphasized self-reliance over creature comforts. Despite Kor Vella's harsh rules, the religious retreat attracted other Corellians, who built shanties around the central monastery.[1]
Kor Vella's history changed dramatically when local miners located large deposits of ore near the mesa. This discovery coincided with a sudden surge in demand for Corellian starships throughout the galaxy. As starship manufacturers purchased ore from Kor Vella, the influx of credits nearly overwhelmed the community. Nearly overnight, the inhabitants of Kor Vella could afford all the luxuries that they had formerly despised. Kor Vella eventually dropped all pretense of being a religious retreat and emerged from relative isolation to become one of Corellia's most respected cities.[1]
During the Galactic Civil War, Kor Vella was garrisoned by a large Imperial force that patrolled the city in an effort to crack down Rebel insurgents.[7][8] Commander Zhanks and TA-667 were garrisoned there.[9]
After the Battle of Yavin, the criminal organization known as the Chirq Council established an important spice smuggling operation in Kor Vella.[6] In 1 ABY,[3] the mayor of Kor Vella Deel Draav was assassinated by the Chirq Council.[10]

- ↑ 3.0 3.1 The opening crawl of Star Wars Galaxies: An Empire Divided dates the game to after the events of Star Wars: Episode IV A New Hope, and additionally, Serji-X Arrogantus, who died in Star Wars (1977) 10—the events of which The New Essential Chronology dates to 0 ABY—appears in the game. Therefore, at least a portion of Star Wars Galaxies must be set in that year. Furthermore, in the game Ruwan Tokai references the destruction of the Death Star as having occurred one year earlier, and Strongholds of Resistance also places the events of Galaxies' Chapter 9: "The Fury of Exar Kun" in 1 ABY. Lastly, while Chapter 11: "The Battle of Echo Base" features the Battle of Hoth—dated to 3 ABY by The New Essential Chronology—the developers have stated that the portrayal of that battle in the game is intentionally anachronistic. Therefore, the events of Star Wars Galaxies must span from 0 ABY to around 1 ABY.
