Plot summary[]

Luke Skywalker lives with his uncle, Owen, on their farm on the planet Tatooine. They lead a quiet life, which will soon change. The Empire has taken control of the galaxy. Darth Vader, part of this empire, commands an army of Stormtroopers. The Empire has constructed a dangerous weapon, the Death Star and the Rebel Alliance fights to free the galaxy from the Empire's control. Some Rebels have stolen the plans to the Death Star, which reveals it has a weakness that can allow the Rebel Alliance to destroy it. One such Rebel determined to overthrow the Empire is Leia, a princess who has been imprisoned by Vader, who wants the Death Star plans returned.[1]

Leia's droid R2-D2 will try to find Obi-Wan Kenobi, a man who will help fight the Empire. Together with another droid, C-3PO, flee to Tatooine in an escape pod. Luke Skywalker and Owen need to buy droids to help on their farm, and purchase both R2-D2 and C-3PO from some Jawas, crafty creatures who had captured the duo. Skywalker has a friend named Ben Kenobi, who is secretly the Jedi Obi-Wan Kenobi sought by R2-D2. R2-D2 gives Kenobi a message from Leia, who reveals to Skywalker that he can teach the farmer to be a Jedi, but he must leave Tatooine and help Leia fight the Empire.[1]

They need a ship to Rescue Princess Leia and find a man named Han Solo. Kenobi promises Solo a reward if he helps them with his ship, the Millennium Falcon. Skywalker and Solo then disguise themselves as stormtroopers and rescue Leia, however they fall into a waste disposal unit. They are in turn saved by both R2-D2 and C-3PO. Kenobi then distracts Vader so the group can escape and, in a fierce one-on-one lightsaber duel, the Jedi is defeated by Vader. The Rebels now attack the Death Star in space, flying X-wing starfighters against the Imperial TIE fighters. Luke Skywalker, flying an X-wing, avoids the Imperial fighters and fires at the right place to destroy the space station. After the victory, Leia gives the heroes medals to reward their bravery, though the fight against the Empire will continue.[1]
