- "What had been paid employment became mandatory service, then slavery in all but name. Workers with manufacturing experience were herded into labor camps with pitiful living conditions."
- ―Ransolm Casterfo
A labor camp, also known as a work camp, was a penal institution where inmates were put to hard physical work. The Galactic Empire had labor camps at various locations, including one on Wobani[2] and another on Erebus.[3] On Lothal, those charged with crimes such as treason were forced to construct devices such as gravity locks while in prison, one such prisoner being Ryder Azadi.[4] On the planet of Riosa, Darth Vader himself oversaw the subjugation and the impressment of the population into such camps.[1] The Naboo artist Palo Jemabie was sentenced to an Imperial labor camp, although he did manage to get out eventually.[5]
According to Paige Tico, the First Order turned Martaus VI, the homeworld of the Martigrade Fossil, into a labor camp.[6]
