- "I've never seen a mine with such destructive power!"
- ―Anakin Skywalker
A land mine was an explosive device, concealed under or on the ground and designed to destroy or disable enemy targets as they passed over or near the device.
Description[]
Land mines were widely used in ground warfare throughout the galaxy.[2] Considered to be one of the most insidious weapons used in combat, land mines were basic explosive devices designed to be concealed until they were triggered. A variety of models were available, with the most common being designed to kill and maim infantry forces. Mines were typically triggered by physical pressure, such as a soldier stepping on it. Vehicle mines could distinguish between infantry and ground craft, allowing it to be triggered only by the passing of vehicles. This led to tactics such as friendly troops luring enemy vehicles into active minefields.[3] Specific models included simple models such as Conner Ship Systems' 3HX3 timer mine, the variable-altitude repulsorlift mine,[2] and Merr-Sonn's versatile LX-4 proton mine.[3]
History[]
When Revan baited a krayt dragon out of its cave to get the Star Map, it stepped on a land mine and was killed.
