"There goes another one. I think it's the Laudable."
"That's General Ares' ship, isn't it?"

The Laudable was a Venator-class Star Destroyer in the Republic Navy during the Clone Wars. In 22 BBY, the Laudable was dispatched from the Republic's galactic capital of Coruscant, under the command of the Phuii Jedi General Ares Nune, to patrol the Phu system for Separatist activity. While on patrol, the Laudable's task force—consisting of at least two other Star Destroyers—was attacked by the Malevolence, a Confederate warship equipped with two ion pulse cannons on each of its sides. Under the command of the Confederate General Grievous, the Malevolence took down the shields of the entire Republic fleet with its ion cannons. After doing so, the Malevolence proceeded to destroy Nune's task force, including the Laudable, using its turbolasers to obliterate the exposed ships.

The Laudable was a Venator-class Star Destroyer[2] manufactured by Kuat Drive Yards[1] that served in the Galactic Republic Navy during the Clone Wars between the Republic and the Confederacy of Independent Systems. It was armed with fifty-two laser cannons, eight DBY-827 heavy dual turbolaser turrets, two medium dual turbolaser cannons, four proton torpedos tubes, and six tractor beam projectors. The Laudable was 1,137 meters long,[1] and was equipped with escape pods and two command towers.[2]

In 22 BBY,[4] while docked at the drydocks of the Republic's galactic capital of Coruscant, the Laudable was assigned to the Phuii Jedi General Ares Nune.[5] General Nune was in command of a Republic task force, made up of at least two other Venator-class Star Destroyers, to patrol the Phu system for Separatist activity. Nune himself used the Laudable as his flagship while in the system.[2] The Laudable's departure from Coruscant was witnessed by the clone shock troopers Rys and Jek, who were near the drydocks, waiting for their next assignment.[5]

Kite and Nune talking on the bridge of the Laudable

While on patrol, the Laudable's task force's initial sweeps reported no enemy activity. Nune, from the bridge of the Laudable, ordered another scan of the surrounding area to be sure nothing had been missed. While the secondary sweeps were underway, Kite, a clone commander stationed aboard the Laudable, began to discuss the mission with Nune on the bridge.[2]

However, a new Confederate weapon was hiding out of sight of the Republic task force in the form of the Malevolence, a Subjugator-class heavy cruiser under the command of the Confederate General Grievous. As Kite and Nune were finishing up their conversation on the bridge, Grievous ordered the Malevolence to fire its ion pulse cannons at the Republic task force, which disabled the shields of the entire Republic fleet. The Malevolence destroyed the Laudable, along with the rest of the Republic fleet, killing Kite, Nune, and everyone else onboard.[2]

The loss of the Laudable and the rest of Nune's battle group was later reported in a press release by HoloNet News. An audio recording of a clone trooper stationed on the Laudable during the attack survived the battle, and the transmission was played during the broadcast. Despite the quick destruction of the Laudable, the recording stated that an evacuation of the Laudable via its escape pods had been attempted, but the crew was not quick enough.[3]

Commanders and crewEdit

The last commander of the Laudable was General Ares Nune, who was in charge of the Star Destroyer at Phu. The Laudable's crew included Clone Commander Kite and numerous clone troopers.[2] The entire crew of the Laudable, including Kite and Nune, was killed by the Malevolence in the Phu system.[3]

Behind the scenesEdit

The Laudable made a brief cameo in The Clone Wars webcomic Prelude, which led into "Ambush,"[2] the first episode in the Star Wars: The Clone Wars television series.[6] The Laudable was given a more significant role in the webcomic Shakedown, which led into "Rising Malevolence,"[2] the second episode in The Clone Wars television series.[7] The loss of General Nune's task force was reported in the in-universe HoloNet News — A Galaxy Divided, the first installment of the online Holonet News podcast series that took place before the events of "Rising Malevolence."[8]
