"I promise you that I will find her the best, most decent, most honest, hardest working lawyer I can."
"Oh. I was trying to get her someone who'd win."
Jagged Fel and Jaina Solo, on finding a lawyer to represent Tahiri Veila[1]

A lawyer or attorney[2] was a person who was involved in the practice of law, such as representing individuals or organizations before court.[1]

Following a speeder accident in 22 BBY, in which Trade Federation Senator Lott Dod was injured when a malfunctioning Skyways Flyer automated pubtrans flitter forced him to collide with a water silo, Dod's lawyers intended to sue Skyways Flyer for the incident. During the Clone Wars, Kevzod Stenir was a lawyer, and Doolb Snoil worked as a barrister.[source?] On the planet Stassia, the term Defender was used.[3]

Some droids, such as the C4LR litigation droid, were fully accredited to work within the Imperial legal system.[4]

Nawara Ven, Twi'lek pilot and member of Rogue Squadron during the Galactic Civil War, was a lawyer prior to joining the Rogues. He was the defense lawyer for Tycho Celchu when he was put on trial for treason. Ven was close to the New Jedi Order and, in 44 ABY, was the defense counsel for Grand Master Luke Skywalker when the Galactic Federation of Free Alliances under Chief of State Natasi Daala pursued legal action against Skywalker for the actions of Darth Caedus in the Second Galactic Civil War. The Order also asked Ven to defend ex-Jedi Tahiri Veila when she was put on trial for murdering Admiral Gilad Pellaeon, but the court refused Ven as defense counsel, citing his closeness with the Order. The trial occurred in the Ninth Hall of Justice, where Veila was prosecuted by Sul Dekkon, a Chagrian advocate appointed by Daala, and defended by Eramuth Bwua'tu, Esquire, a well-respected Bothan with a long career in law who came out of retirement to take Veila's case.[1]
