Legacy 1: Prisoner of the Floating World, Part 1 is the first issue of the Star Wars: Legacy Volume 2 comic series.

To promote Legacy's launch, authors Corinna Bechko and Gabriel Hardman were present at a comic shop called Beach Ball Comics in Anaheim, California, on March 20, 2013.[2] On March 23, cover artist Dave Wilkins joined them for a visit to a shop called Collector's Paradise in Winnetka, California, where an exclusive variant cover of the first issue was available to guests. Hardman drew the variant cover[3] as an homage to the classic 1977 poster for the original Star Wars film.[4]

Plot summary[]

Following the defeat of Darth Krayt's Galactic Empire, the One Sith are driven underground. A new Galactic Federation Triumvirate consisting of the Jedi Order, the Fel Empire, and the Galactic Alliance Remnant is established. The new Empress Marasiah Fel embarks on an ambitious project to link the Outer Rim Territories with the rest of the galaxy. In 138 ABY, she dispatches the Imperial Knight Yalta Val on a mission to the Carreras system to supervise the finishing stages of the Carreras G51 communications array. While navigating through the difficult Surd Nebula, Val's shuttle is ambushed by a Sith master and his apprentice and crash-lands on the floating world of Mala. After killing Val's men, the Sith master manages to overpower and disarm Yalta Val. However, he is then killed by his apprentice who has other plans for his Imperial Knight captive.

Yalta Val's Imperial communications droid manages to recover his lightsaber but is struck by asteroids and left floating in a space. A week later, a pair of spacers recover the communications droid and reluctantly sell it to Ania Solo, a young Human woman who runs a junkyard on Carreras Minor's moon. Meanwhile, the Sith apprentice assumes Master Val's disguise and is rescued by the Carreras authorities. Under the pretext that there is a Sith presence in the Carreras system, the Sith impostor coerces Governor Biala into handing him personal control over her security forces. On the Carreras Minor ice mining platform, Ania presents her "find" to her Mon Calamari friend Sauk. While examining the droid, Ania and Sauk discover a blue-bladed lightsaber. Viewing it as a get-rich-fast-ticket, Ania and Sauk decide to take it to another junk dealer to buy their way out of the impoverished Carreras system.

On Coruscant, Empress Fel and other Triumvirate members including Admiral Gar Stazi and Jedi Master K'Kruhk debate the merits of her ambitious G51 galactic communications project. On the Shifala homeworld of Carreras Major, Ania and Sauk attempt to sell the lightsaber but are expelled by the shopkeeper. Shortly later, the two companions are pursued by the Carreras security forces. Following a confrontation, Ania fatally shoots a security officer. Meanwhile, on Mala, Yalta Val is shown to be a captive of the mysterious Sith apprentice and is forced to wear a Sith mask.
