- "I don't know about you, but those things sure creep me out."
"Ah, just ignore 'em. Least they're not as dangerous as those Loth-cats." - ―Two stormtroopers discuss Loth-bats
Loth-bats were a species of giant bat[4] native to the planet Lothal in the Outer Rim Territories of the galaxy.[2] They were known to travel in packs and had the ability to glide over long distances,[4] as well as roost under the eaves of buildings.[2] They were able to produce strained and high-pitched squeals, which were reported to unnerve patrolling stormtroopers at night.[4] Agent Kallus of the Imperial Security Bureau once mentally compared the Grand Inquisitor, a gaunt Pau'an who dressed in black, to a Loth-bat.[2]
Behind the scenes[]
Loth-bats were first mentioned in the 2015 junior novel Battle to the End, the fourth entry in the Star Wars Rebels chapter book series written by Michael Kogge. The novel is based on the Star Wars Rebels season one finale episodes "Call to Action," "Rebel Resolve," and "Fire Across the Galaxy."[2]
