"The Lothal Papyri? He's still having Initiates translate these?"
"You mean they've been deciphered before?"
"Only every time someone steps out of line. Took me and Yula at least three months. Good luck."
―Lene Kostana and Sifo-Dyas — (audio) Listen (file info)[1]

The Lothal Papyri were a series of agricultural treatises related to[1] the planet[2] Lothal. They were kept in the Jedi Archives within the Jedi Temple on the planet Coruscant. When Jedi Initiates misbehaved, they were made to translate the treatises as a punishment. When they were Initiates, Jedi Masters Yula Braylon and Lene Kostana were tasked with deciphering the papyri by Jedi Grand Master Yoda. Completing the project took them at least three months.[1]

Later,[1] in 88 BBY,[3] Yoda assigned the same task to Initiates Sifo-Dyas and Dooku for breaking into the Archive of Forbidden Artifacts, a hidden vault in the Jedi Archives which contained dark side artifacts.[1] Dooku later told his sister, Jenza, about the events in a holo-letter.[1] Around 23 BBY,[4] Dooku gave several data disks containing his messages to Jenza to his recently recruited Sith assassinAsajj Ventress—for her investigation into his sister's location, and she listened to the holo-disk that mentioned the Lothal Papyri.[1]
